Hey today is the 6th anniversary of the tragic events of 9-11-01.
Let's take a moment to remember the victims of that tragic event and another moment to remember all those servicemen and women who have paid the ultimate price for freedom.

I was there when it happened, and I have a cousin who lives in Soho, who I was visiting for the Labor Day week or so, and he works uptown, we would walk uptown usually at about 10am, that day however, Rick had a early meeting (he's an ad exec for Sony) and we left Soho (where his house is) at about 7am, when we reached the 41st floor of the NBC bldg., everyone was at the south windows, at that time the 1st plane hit and everone thought it was an accident, well, when the 2nd one hit, we all knew what had happenned, and we were all horrified. I lost another cousin who was a firefighter when bldg. 1 went down. His remains were never found. I spoke about him Saturday in Tempe AZ at a memorial service, and it was hard because I was close to Denny and his family, he left a wife and 2 kids. They were compensated well, but still....so today I sent Suzanne and the kids some flowers and a card, but what can you say? It was a horrible, personal loss, and probably the worst day of my life. We had to sneak back to Rick's pad to rescue his cat with full face masks, goggles, and booties 'cause no one knew how bad the pollution was. Thank God the house was well-sealed (it was hot that week and the a/c was on). The cat came through unscathed except probably for trauma, Rick told me Amigo (the cat) was never the same after that, but he's still alive and kickin' at 12! Now it comes out that ppl. down there are getting sick from what they inhaled, so I am glad we took precautions. I detest George Bush and think he should be impeached for all of his travesties in office. That's my story.

I couldn't agree with you more Gamma. And the f*cker wants another $200 million for the war that has already cost us over a billion. I say, bring the troops home, leave the guns and let them fight it out. But we have so many $$$$$$$$$$$$$ interests over there, it will probably go on for another 5 years or so. Unless we get a Democrat for President, and I am not sold on any of 'em.
fuck the democrats too! god damn, spineless whores who are so afraid of being unpopular and nonsupporting! i spit on them too!
okay, i didn't want to get all riled up. this is a RIP thread and i hate what happened on 9/11. it was a terrible terrible tragedy.
but there are a few things that are even more terrible: 1. the fact that it was preventable and 2. our counter-action since then and how we have been lied to and manipulated into believing that Iraq had something to do with 9/11.
i'm sick of it. i'm sick and tired of it. and i'm sick of people wandering around not paying attention and not caring. fear and apathy are changing this country. they are making those men and women who are serving this country honorably for freedoms they believe in, die in vain. this is becoming a greater tragedy than 9/11 in itself.
Very sorry to hear of your loss Mike. I personally have a sad count of 8 lives that have been lost since the attacks of 9-11. I lost two previous commanders of mine at the Pentagon and have since lost 6 very close and dear friends to the war since.
I personally couldn't agree with you more regarding Bush. He should go down in history as the most incompetent president to have ever held the office. He should also go down as the one who profited the most by the war he personally started. Impeached? Eh, I don't think that goes far enough. He should be held criminally liable for his negligence and incompetence. He should also be made the poster boy for Jerry's kids for the rest of the millenium. Were it not for Bush's foreign policy stance and his conduct of the war I might have forgone the comfort of my home and career to be back in uniform.

Life In The Emerald City is a good book too among others, talks about life in Baghdad and the Green Zone and the waste of money. Did you know there were actually Haliburton employees playing football with stacks of $100 bills? True story. There is $20 billion unaccounted for right now and it could be higher. That's enough to make me s*it in every Republican's mouth, or rip their heads off and s*it down their necks! Not to mention the SIGs. Check out the Daily Cos too if you don't already.
Zoom, that is horrible, I cannot even compare my loss to that. You have my deepest condolences. You are a true patriot Zoom, I admire you highly for that. You too Gamma.

Thanks Mike. As we all know we've all suffered due to the attacks. What really chaps my hide is that we're still suffering and it's not because of our enemies. On top of that it's our own doing. It's just wrong and like gamma said "we" have to do something about it.
The military has been a cornerstone of most of my life until recently and I find it difficult to hold a meaningful conversation about it. On the one hand I strongly believe in what our military stands for and what it can do for an individual. The problem I have is because I don't know what to say to those who want to join. I currently have almost a doezn family members serving and just last week shook the hand of another little cousin who left for the Marine Corps. I am at a loss when I send these kids off as I don't know what to tell them. Do I tell them to believe? Of course, I believe in the institution that is our military, but what about what they are now relegated to doing. I know there are those that argue that the military has always been the enforcer of our policies, but it has never taken this thype of direction before. At least not in my life time. I want to to stop them from joining and becoming a pawn of the likes of Bush and his cronies, yet I know that the experience will make them strong. Now the question is... will they make it through the ordeal for the "experience" to make a difference in their lives and our society.

^^^its all about not accepting that they were wrong... fukcen politics man, their ego has killed too many people.... we need to put that money here in the US instead of overseas..... **its not going to work anywyas.... you canot change their mentality, ideas, religion, these have exsited since before the US was even fudned....
I know exactly what you mean Zoom, and I would be at a loss as to what to advise them, I never served in the military but my brother was in 'Nam 1964-68 (Navy USS Canberra) and got a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart and I do believe the military builds character. What you can tell them if they want to join and young enough would be simply to say "Not at this time."
