Default Yo Phelan............08/07/07

Just ordered a Sig 220 Elite, will be ordering my factory black USC tomorrow, and have a bid in on an HK93.

My bank account is going to get slammed this month, but I expect the HK93 to fall through...........my bid is too low.

Any suggestions on holsters & mag carriers for the 220? I'm thinking something for the range if we get time to run drills.

the HK USC carbine? ohhhh man, you get that and i'm really jealous. i checked and i can't buy that here in Cali.

What do you need another Sig and HK93 for?

I got one of these for my Sig 220. It comes with the paddle as optional. I don't like the paddle, so I have it hooked on my belt. It's very smooth to draw from. What kind of holster are you looking for?

buy it at a gun show if you get a chance.

The only two holsters I've got any experience with is the included one for my XD (its ok for a freebie, wouldn't pay for it) and a Galco black leather 1911 holster for my Kimber. I like the feel of the Galco, especially after folding it around in my hands like a baseball glove to soften it up. I've had people mistake it for alligator hide with the texture it picked up by doing so as well. Bianchi is supposed to make some real nice holsters as well, haven't looked much at them as the store with the best holster selection here doesn't have one for my XD or Kimber (at least not in a non-paddle/kydex version).

Just looking at the specs on the 220 one thing that I don't think I'd like is the vast difference in trigger pull weight. 10lb DA down to 4.5lb SA...huge difference in pull there, my XD is around 5.5lb.

Why can't HK design carbines/rifles that don't look like props off a B rate (at best) sci-fi movie? Their pistols all pretty well look sweet but its like they get smashed before designing the appearance of their other firearms.

Gamma c'mon you should know by now that no fun guns are allowed in Cali! I bet it won't be long before super soakers are banned.

Yup the USC is the UMP civilian version. I find it odd to refer to it as a carbine since the barrel is actually longer than the UMP. Oh wells.......

I want the 220 variant since my original 220 has no night sights, cannot be retrofitted for the SRT (short reset trigger), and has no integral 1913/Picatinny rail. The SRT is pretty sweet, it's crazy how short the reset is and if I learned anything from last month's free shoot is I need to take care of my trigger reset issues.

Holster is just for fun days or if I decide to become more active in competition type shooting.

BTW our gun shows suck cow balls.

The whole premise behind the 220 is a combat pistol without a safety, more in the lines of what you'd see with a revolver. No making the mistake of forgetting to taking your safety off in a high stress situation. Also the long heavy 1st pull is to make sure that you are serious about taking that first shot. No accidental discharges in a high stress situation. Once that first shot is off, the gun is in combat mode. BTW I don't ever shoot my 220 in DA, I always shoot it SA.

One of the things about the weird look is to meet US importation laws. If not for this the USC wouldn't wear a skeletonized stock, it would have the evil pistol grip, folding stock and front vertical grip.

I'll have to try a DA/SA gun in DA mode at some point...my XD and Kimber are SAO as are the USPs I've shot. The only DA/SAs I know I've shot have been a CZ-75 and a P226DAK but those I shot SA.

I've never had a problem with the XD sending unintended shots down range; I have done it a few times with the Kimber between it having almost no take-up on the trigger and I think a 3.5lb pull.

The 220 is a Sig so you can't go too wrong with it especially since its not DAO.

My USP Match is a DA/SA also. I prefer them to a DAO or SAO only setup. I like the DA/SA for exactly the reasons I listed. I don't think the problem is sending rounds out at the range, I'm thinking more like when you are home and someone comes in the window (with someone you don't want to shoot behind the bad guy).

BTW I don't blindly trust Sig after the whole Mosquito debacle.

So you know anything about the Robinson Arms XCR? From what I've seen so far it seems like a good alternative to the Sig556.

XCR L Specifications

On paper the XCR looks pretty sweet. A 5.56 semi-auto that looks like and uses many of the same accessories of the AR; but was designed from the ground up to use a short-stroke piston. Love the fact it has a FAL style charging handle on the left of the rifle...no having to drop from a ready position to charge it.

Early production models had some problems in the trigger group which are to have been fixed. It was submitted to the Army's SCAR program, but got DQ'd for not having blank firing adapters shipped with the test units... Only negative I've found about the gun itself is that bolt falls out of the bolt carrier when you remove it for cleaning so you have to be ready to catch it. The company on the other hand while on the up and up seems to be going through the growing pains of a young company...long term stability/existence has me worried a tad.

You know what? I was just checking my emails and my friend (who constantly seems to want me to buy more guns) had a little blurb in his email about the XCR.

He's getting an LWRC hopefully this week after about 5 -6 months of waiting. The small company with growing pains applies in that case. I'll have to pick his brain more about the XCR.

BTW I ordered a Sig 220 Elite and bought an H&K USC. The USC should ship today. Yay!!!
