Motorcycle Fatality in Jefferson Parish
On Saturday, February 18th, 2006 at 2:23 am Louisiana State Police, Troop B investigated a single vehicle fatality crash at LA 48 (Jefferson Hwy) and Upstream Street. The crash involved a 2006 Suzuki, GRS 1000 sport motorcycle, operated by Mr. Ricky Lee Villers (W/M, 21 yoa), of River Ridge. The Suzuki motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on Jefferson Hwy and failed to negotiate the curve in the roadway. The motorcycle then left the right side of the roadway striking the front of the Taco Bell building at the intersection of Jefferson Hwy and Upstream Street. The motorcycle then penetrated the front of the building and exited the west side of the building. Mr. Villers suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene.
Speed is a factor in the crash. It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash. There was no evidence on the scene which revealed if the driver was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
TFC Steve Volante is continuing his investigation.

damn....thats sad....but he shouldnt have been riding that fast in the city limits....save that shit for the highway
Bikes gather speed so fast you don't even know its happening sometimes. I had a Kawasaki 1000, it could hit 60 in 2.5 seconds and quarter in 11.
The new Ninja's can hit 60 in under 2 seconds and quarter in 9 (at 154 mph). The new big bikes can hit 90 in first gear ... You blip the throttle and the thing is going 100. You literally only need to hold the throttle for a few seconds to be at 150 mph
You don't have much time to recover from a bad decision.

Well ... I kind of doubt it
The 1,000 cc bikes are pulling around 160 HP and around 75 lb/ft of torque - and they only weigh about 500 lbs. There has been talk of limiters, but all bikes are customized (in my experience anyway). Every rider know a customizer, it would be trivial to take off a limiter/reflash or do whatever.
Also, its been years since I looked (so the stat might be off a little) ... but 80% of motorcycle deaths are first year riders, and half of those are in corners. Other than killing themselves they don't usually tend to do much property damage. So its kind of like interfering with bungee jumping, stunt flying, parachuting, jet ski's, mountain climbing, or any of the other hobbies people kill themselves with
