There were a bunch of translators there that we'd pay to work for us. Since they usually got to live with us daily, we got to know each other well and many times became friends. I remember one coming to work one morning and telling us that his entire family had been murdered the night before. He was obviously grief stricken but went on with work anway. He told us that death is a daily part of "his" world and there's so much of it you just go on about your day without thinking about it too much. They wake up everyday and wonder if they'll see another. I wonder what the long term psychological effects all that crap will have on their population. Only time will tell.
I was told there by the locals that life is worth a 5 lbs. sack of rice/flower. They kill each other for it. Makes you look at life in whole different light.
