Default Just a sad world

I know we are deeply sadden by what happened in VT, but I was just reading an article about schools in Iraq where this type of stuff is normal. I KNOW the VT shooting is an outrage but this article kinda put a perspective on things.

Iraqi students saddened by Virginia Tech - Yahoo! News

I can't imagine what the Iraqi people are going through. What a sad world we live in.

i didnt read what the article said. what happened in Virginia is hella sad to any human regardless where they come from. It's simple, no one wants it to happen to them! Second Iraq is passing thru really hard times. Last week and in one day about 270 people died. and there are people dying there in 10's and 100's every single day, on week days, weekends, holidays, every freaking day. These are people, they're not ants man.

hmm why do i feel suicidal today

Do you guys remember the shooting in Russia (or one of the Soviet's old territories) several years ago? That makes the VT shooting look like a walk in the park.

I hate to say this guys, but this sort of stuff "acutally" happens on a more regular basis than you would think, or imagine.

If you recall I spent some time in Sudan and I saw some things that really just shocked me. Being deployed as peace keepers basically meant that we would patrol our given area of operation on a daily basis. Not too much unlike what US forces are doing in Iraq at the moment. Well, my AO happened to be on the outskirts of Khartoum, the capital of Sudan. Well, usually things would quiet down when we would arrive and after a day or so we'd have to move to another area of our AO. We basically had like 1 soldier for every 10 square miles to police. We got word of insurrection in a sector that we had just left and we were quickly choppered in to an area that we were just in two or three days ago. We had left behind around 300 red cross workers who were building homes/schools/etc. When we got back the first thing we encountered was a school, it was for preschool on up to high school students. The rebels had come in to that area, right after we left, and had killed 25 red cross workers and more than 500 Sudanians. I personally walked into a room where I saw the most tragic thing I've ever personally witnessed. Twenty five children ranging from 5 to about 12 were murdered where they sat in their desks along with their teacher. A reprisal for cooperating with NATO forces and not rebelling against the gov't. I've yet to see so many teary eyes from some of the toughest men I've ever known.

Truely sad, but it does happen quite regularly. Most of it is never aired by our TV stations.

Yeah iron. My deployment to Sudan was my very last before I left the Army and it was actually one of the reasons I decided to. It's difficult to describe but I got sick and tired of seeing that stuff. You were prior-service so you also know that when you talk to a lifer you're probably talking to someone who's seen all sorts of crap that happen around the world. I just couldn't see myself doing that for the rest of my life.
