Regardless of 500 mph or 300 mph that's still incredibly fast. It's difficult and expensive to maintain aircraft, but to make sure thousands of miles of tracks are in a condition to be used during all weather conditions is quite a difficult feat. I'm not sure it would be an advisable venture to back.

man i had to take the train in cali from OC to santa barbara. that thing was the slowest thing on earth. any car on the inside roads was much faster than us, i think we were going like 35-50 mph. it just sucked! i thought it does like 85 or something
Amtrak is ridiculously slow. They have "new" sections in the Midwest that reach 90mph in small bursts, but the tracks are pretty bad quality so they can't run top speed very often.
For OC->SB until you clear LA, you won't be allowed to go very fast anyway since it's pretty urban. Then going along the coast, people with expensive houses probably complain about the noise so the trains may not be allowed to run very fast there either, LoL.
ur probably right... it's the same as driving there except you dont have to deal with traffic... the worse is Metrolink down in socal... man that thing breaks down like on every trip!
