I mean what the F*&^ !!!!

Iran is blatantly violating the Geneva Convention here by publicly displaying prisoners on TV and forcing them to say / do various things. Now they are talking about a possible trial for the captured sailors.

I say we let Britain drop a whole lot of bombs on Iran and shut them up. This may actually bring about world peace .

well I know that may be a bit extreme but what option are they leaving us? they are obviously not civilized enough or rational enough to deal with or to understand any other measures . And are obviously trying to obtain nuclear weapons - which by the way can NEVER occur.

what do you think?

Drop bombs - bad idea at this time.

GB is at this point focusing through the UN to bring pressure on Iran. It should hit the point of embargos and economic sanctions before military force is explored. If the political pressure doesn't work, then it's time to think about military intervention.

Also, I'm not sure if Iran is signatory to the Geneva Convention or not, but in any case it deals with treatment during times of war which this is clearly not. This act was more along the lines of a terroristic act where a state summarily kidnaps and detains persons against their will by force.

haha 'nuff with the geneva convention BS... like Gitmo adheres to it!
americans only become so civil when they, or their allies, are being screwed, but when they're attacking they forget Geneva!
speaking of iran, we havent started a war in a long time, when are we bombing them?

Keep in mind that terrorists are not signatories to the Geneva Convention. They do not formally declare and wage a war according to "humane conventions." They therefore are not afforded the same level of protection as a state that is signatory to and adheres to the Geneva Convention.

Also we do not treat the terrorists on a whole like they do our people, if you think so you are seriously deluded.

Why would you make a martyr of people who are already in that mindset? You keep them alive and in jail showing all the other zealots how their best of the best gave up (the bitches). The difference between us and them is we stick our soldiers in front of the population and terrorists hide behind theirs.

Last time I checked we never arrested, detained, tortured, then beheaded foreign correspondents or aid workers. Please extract your head from your derrier.

If you want to help the Iraqis or Iranians so much and you believe in all their propoganda, then by all means go and join the peace corp and request deployment to those areas.

I really hope Iran releases the sailors but it is looking worse and worse every day.

And I do believe that capturing military personnel is an act of war. Especially since it was done by the state and not by some radical 10 person group.

historically iran doesnt really release people, especially when they're pissed. Iraqi soldiers never returned home from the iran-iraq war in the 80's.
Britain seems to be escalating not understanding that it will make iran only escalate in return too. Now the irani president is demanding an apology.
But i agree with you, it only gets more difficult everyday. and it sucks for the sailors who became the victims of a long series of political pressure from both sides. I think it's F'd up of Iran to do that and show the soldiers, on the other hand I think those sailors are worthless from the way Britain is behaving.

Let me settle your confusion.

1). Terrorists do not ratify the Geneva Convention.
2). The Geneva Convention applies to wars and treatment of personnel during wars.

Terrorists get no treatment under the Geneva Convention, they are not recognized.

Say what? These world figures deal with this on a daily basis, far more than you or I. They know the repercussions more than you or I.

What would you do if you were a captive of Iran? Should our Govt just say, "sucks to be you"?

You're both missing the damn point! There are guys who are being held against their will by a bunch of yahoo's and their country can't do a damn thing about it. It's a sad turn of events and I'm sure those guys are scared sh1tless right now. Many of you might be too young to remember but we also were in a similar situation during the late 70's early 80's with Iran. We did get our people back but it cost many lives and headaches to get them back safe. So let's not argue about sh1t that doesn't matter and hope and pray those guys will return to their homes and families safe.

I'm well aware and remember Jimmy Carter's failed rescue attempt. It may have been the low point of his Presidency. I also remember Ollie North.

Unfortunately getting them back will take some doing and laying back won't help the situation. It may take some back table dealings out of the public eye, but hopefully it will be resolved.

i'll say what i think plain and simple: fuck britain, fuck iran they're both liars and bullshitters and both worlds do not adhere to Geneva. On the other hand it sucks for the sailors who have to fault in all of this.
