smoke, i appreciate, eventhough i don't really understand, your willingness to "ignore" this, but do you think it would have done the guy in NY who was reaching for his wallet any good to ignore it while he had four clips worth of bullets emptied at him? ignore it all you want, but it won't ignore you. all it takes is being in the wrong place at the wrong time, a cop seriously harrassing you for what you are, and you seriously paying for it. i can't say that i've experienced this, but i'm not blind to it. it's real. good luck, and if you ever drive I10 cross country, don't get off of it, and wait until you get to houston before you stay the night at a hotel.
bueno suerte.
my main problem with hispanics and blacks is that they CONSTANTLY feel that EVERYTHING that is done is because of racism. a black man doesnt get a job, racism. a hispanic man is shot, racism.
if you look for racism, then you will find racism. most of the "racism" we find in today's day in age is in the eye of the beholder. very little racism can be classified as complete and utter racism. this is why i am idealistic and state we should ignore all these little details that seem to drive people insane. you use examples of police officers, there will always be acts of racism, but not EVERYTHING is an act of racism. that's the message i'm trying to get across.
you're example of saying that i should'nt get off at a hotel until i reach houston is proven my theory, that the ignorant and un-educated are the racists. or are you going to argue that there are scholars along the highway? And my idealism of ignoring racism can once again be used in these circumstances. if some trailer trash white guy tells you a racial remark, you're going to tell me the wisest thing to do is to make a racial remark back? that is absurd. you're only wasting brain cells with individuals who probably never learned beyond 9th grade math. just IGNORE them. now, you seem to have a tendency to classify your acts of racism as hate crimes. there's a difference between hate crimes and racism. when i talk about racism, i'm making referrence to racial slurs and deragotory insults. you on the other hand, think of racism as attacks from police officers, or getting beaten up by white men in a bar; those are hate crimes, and are VERY different from racism.

out of the thousands of characters i've typed in this thread, that's all you could come up with to summarize my position? try again. you're way off. i think gamma and i are standing side by side on this one. his position is almost exactly the same as mine which is pretty much the same as the scholar who's work was written about in that CNN article.

i was not trying to summarize your point of view, i was merely trying to impose my own opinion from the beginning.
what i am trying to pinpoint is your trend to get hate crimes mixed up with racism. you use examples of police cruelty and abuse in rural areas to prove your point, that's not racism, those are hate crimes. now, hate crimes are a direct cause of racism, yet, you cannot confuse one with the other. which is what you're doing.
i know your position, and I do not completey agree with it, non-the-less, I'm not trying to change yours; i'm just letting you know where i stand.
turn your tv on CNN. they're talking about this very issue. 'good reporting. this stuff is real smoke. ignore what you want smoke, but seriously, this shit is alive and well...unfortunately.

this is amazing. smoke, i wish you were watching this. i'm not saying this is the end all and be all of what people believe about this issue, but this is so real. when i see a white guy and a black guy both try to rent the same apartment, with the same credentials, and they're treated completely differently because of the way their voices sounded, i see my point sadly being proven. you don't have to walk up to me and call me an "N;" all you have to do is deny me the treatment you gave my white counterpart. that's what racism looks like now. sure, it's used as a crutch sometimes, but that hardly means it isn't real. some of this stuff is purely coincidence, but a lot of it isn't.

i'm at school right now, and i dont have a TV around at the moment.
what i bolded and underlined in your response is what i am trying to stress.
Be careful what the main stream media pumps into your houses folks. The examples of the writing and editing of the New York newspapers gives one an idea of what truly rules the news nowdays. Unfortunately I'm beginning to thinks it's not one of true education, but motivated by sales and market share.

does everone have an excuse for everything? i watched two guys pick up two different phones, call the same apartment complex, talk to the same landlord, and get two completely different results. i don't care who puts that on tv. it was real. mainstream media bla bla bla...all excuses. why can't people just admit what's real and what isn't?

racism is definitely real but its true that at times the media does stream a lot of biased shit our way.
If I dont feel actual racism (the hatred or even some prejudice-ness) then I feel the tension. It sucks going to a school where you dont see many of your fellow [same race] peers. The rest of the students "dont mix" well. Everyone is chill but I cant relate to them that well.
What really sucks is that its not likely to change, Hispanics, along with blacks are falling behind their white and asian peers in school performance (measured by proficiency testing) n the lack of good teachers in the poorest areas never helps--
puts a lot of pressure on my back at least-- but I shall deliver!! :]

95% of what you read &/or watch from official news sources is bullsh*t!!
If you think that you feel out of place at school try joining the military. The majority are white, especially the officer corps. One day, I realized that I was surrounded by a sea of white guys. If I hadn't been wearing camo on my face and the same uniform, they'd have strung me up for sure.

i dont get it, so did these individuals say "i'm black btw" or "i'm white btw" to the landlord? this is plain and simply ridiculous
like jl and neftali said, of course there's racism, but it's people like you that buy into all the hype. i know for a fact that if you watch hispanic news channels, they will always make mention if a man arrested or shot is hispanic. yet, if he's white or black, they wont even bother identifying the race. why do they do this? because they know (or think) that most of the hispanic population will feel pity on their own people. the media itself is a tool for propoganda that doesnt always reflect the opinion of the nation. a perfect example of this is how the latin media likes to portray is the whole debate concerning the illegal immigrants. you might be surprised to find out that most of the LEGAL hispanic-americans in this country support the government in their actions against legal aliens. but if you were to watch hispanic news channels, you would never believe that fact.
^^
whats my point in this? to show you that the media manipulates what you get to see and how you receive the information. it's up to everyone individually to take it as they'd wish. you say there's always excuse for everything, so what do you think blaming everything on racism is? give me a break.
Holy Shit!!! Did anybody see South Park this past Thursday night??? Dooood, that was a funny ass episode centered around the use of the N-word. Really funny man.
If you haven't seen it, here's the episode in its entirety. Check it out before Viacom pulls copyright rank and yanks it from Youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SfnyuE1oDg
