What do they do about ethnically diverse peoples? Say for instance Russian/Japanese/Jewish people? Would they cut that team by three people since three ethnic backgrounds are represented?

From what my jewish friends tell me, jewish is both a religion and an ethnicity. Remember there was Isreal in the past and one can also take on the religion.
On a side note, man do those leeches in Hollywood know how to get people all excited for nothing. They always seem to stir things up and just leave you hanging without a "happy ending". Do what I do, choose not to watch. Does it make a difference? Nope, not one iota to them, but it sure hell makes a big difference in my house.
