Thumbs up Review: Superman Returns

Just got home from seeing it. I like! b

It was a bit of a shock at first because I've grown acoustumed to watching Smallville. Slowly but surely, I was able to settled into ways that reminisce the original Superman films.

Brandon Routh made for a convincing Superman that would not disappoint even Christopher Reeves himself.
Kate Bosworth was breath taking. She cuuute!
Kevin Spacey also did a commendable job in Lex Luthor. (this one took the most to detach from Michael Rosenbaum's style of Lex in Smallvile)

Although directected by the same director as X-men, I applaud Bryan for trying to stay true to the essence of the first two (Superman I & II). He gave this one the same retro 70/80s cinema feel that brings back lots of childhood memory for me. For that reason, I can see how this may not be everyone's cup of tea.

I'd place this filck as 'soft' vs. X-men's hard and cutting edge style. It's subtle, smooth and graceful. Definitely getting the DVD when it hits the shelves.

Rotten Tomatoes' Score: 79%/77% ... about what I expect for the general public average.

Oh and a slight spoiler ...

[read at own risk]
I found it ironic Louis' husband was played by James Marsden, who also played Cyclops in X-men. In both flicks Marsden's character can't seem to hold on to his chick. :P

Jean is to Wolverine as Louis to Superman.

DOH!!!
[end of read]

It is playing in IMAX 3D by my house... should I go see it there or a regular theater?

I'll pass on this movie. I'm barely curious. I never watched smallville and I heard this movie is ultra long. I'll catch it on dvd or cable later.

Default ditto

i must say i wasn't disappointed at all.
actually, i really liked it.

i went to watch the movie knowing it picked up after the first 2 Superman movies.
Superman 3 and 4 were jokes.

STORYLINE:
unexpected, but it worked.
this installement of the Superman series definitely made the hero very HUMAN.
there were little quirks in the movie that raised a flag for me, but i guess i shouldn't be too picky.
i enjoyed the story.

ROUTH:
played a very convincing Superman/Clark Kent. people might not understand that this role is very hard to pull off. one moment he's a dweeb/dork. next minute he's wetting the panties of every woman.

BOSWORTH:
YUMMAY. (still prefer her as a blond)
Definitely the cutest Lois ever.
She played a huge part in the movie, but she pulled it off just ok.

SPACEY:
this role was just too easy for Spacey.
hell i think he enjoyed playing this part.
undoubtedly the best Lex Luthor i've seen to date. hands down.
i was genuinely hating this guy VERY early on in the movie.
i just wanted to beat his ass for being such an asshole.
his plan was ingenious.

Overall a VERY good movie.
Movie is about 2.5 hours long.
I'd give it an 8.5/10

ugh...
she looked like a she-male crack whore with a bad makeover.

also, forgot to mention...

MUSIC and SOUND:
the music in Superman Returns was very complementary as well.
i believe it played a HUGE part in making everything flow.
the sound effects were kickass too.
no dinky wind noises or laser sounds.
