I was adopted from Korea Republic. Pending on what agency you go through, you usually have to be married too. Korea doesn't like to see it's children go to single parent families. I know quite a few Koreans who were adopted and all went to happily married parents. I think the social workers really strive for that.
As far as adopting goes. I think if you guys are serious, that is awesome for you! More props. Seriously, there are so many children with out homes in the world, and if you haven't noticed a lot of nations are becoming over populated. It's nice to see people who want to give an "existing" child a home. =)
What the hell is in the water ??? I now have 5 friends that are PREGNANT!!!
AND as if that was not shocking enough.. my younger cousin...drops the bomb on me and tells me she's 5 1/2 months preg!!! 19 yrs old... throwing her life away !!!! I dont' know what else to say...
Birth defects are rare in children born to women between the ages of 17 and 21, at the age of 24 the rate starts climbing steadily and spikes up sharply at 31.
Also, children make people focus. My income has doubled every 5 years since my first child was born. Prior to my first child being born, it increased 15% over the previous 5 years.
Having children earlier has a lot of benefits to everyone involved.
No offense, but there's no way in Hell I would of had kids before 30. I'm sure there's merit to the article and the stats, but I'll take my chances.
There are some career considerations for women also.
Few people do much in the careers between the ages of 18 and 28. Most people start to get traction in their 30's, with peak earnings between 45 and 55. The reason for the lackluster start isn't so much experience, and an immature viewpoint (people still have some growing up to do).
Its probably better for women to have the kids early when they aren't going to do much career wise anyway, than to drop out of the workforce as they are entering their peak earning potential (assuming a career woman, and if it isn't a career women there is less risk for both the mother and child if the mother is younger).
It's also probably easier if the kids are hitting car/college age as you are entering your peak disposable income years (40-55).
You also have the kids out of the house when you are in the best shape (physically and financially) to travel and enjoy life.
It must be hell to have to put off retiring because the kids are still draining money.
but what about graduate school? that's full time in many cases. my fiancee worked part time then got her masters and then when to law school and had to go to law school full time to graduate. some women can have kids and do this, I think it was easier for to not have child and accomplish this.
