This happened near my apartment. I live in the southside (bar, party, club district of pittsburgh). Going to class today I caught all the traffic, helicopters, and video cameras covering the nonsense.

My 2 cents...you are a professional athlete. Your career is short lived. Save bike riding for after your 10 years of fame (if you make it that long) are over. Anyways riding a bike as a contracted professional athlete is one thing (fine) but damnit...wear a stupid helmet. Its not like he couldnt afford 10 helmets for each day in a different colour anyways.....bahh..

I feel bad for the guy, but I don't understand all the fuss over one guy who was involved in an accident. He's loaded, even if's unable to play for the rest of his life he's probably insured enough to live comfortably. What should make the news is when an unemployed guy is involved in such an accident because that'll mean that the rest of us will have to flip his medical and disability bills as tax payers. I guess that just goes to show you how messed up our priorities are these days. I mean I'm sure the Steelers will suffer because of him not playing anymore, if that's even the case, but the sport will go on. Sensationalism.

You figure of all people, a football player would respect the use of a helmet.

I don't get why people won't wear a helmet, does that make them more of a man or what? I hope he's okay through this.

Football player's contract isn't guaranteed. They can be cut at anytime and not receive a penny. This is what TO was crying about wanting more upfront guarantee money via signing bonus money. Baseball and Basketball players on the other hand will received every penny that sign for even with playing a single game....

I haven't heard much on this I've been gone all day. I guess his jaw was broken and his knee is "injured". Supposidly he was in an alert condition before going in for surgery.

As the story goes he was coming through an intersection i suppose and apparently some 60 some year old lady turned infront of him? I guess he hit the car....go figure.

Dunno, frankly, I don't care. You got a superbowl ring, and some money...buy yourself some gear to protect your body and skill that is supposidly worth the millions you get paid. Whatever....

He's now in Mercy hospital, which according to all of us in the city, is known as the "hospital that kills people". We have UPMC for goodness sakes, and he goes to Mercy. Guess the crash got the better side of his decision making? Anyways Mercy is directly beside my University, so all day today there were reporters, helicopters, and cameras galour....kinda makes me sick. Car crashes, motorcycle crashes everyday, and we make a huge deal outta the one that involves some little kids role model out there. Smart.

Lesson learned: Money might buy you toys, but not the brains to use them SAFELY.
END OF STORY.

happy and safe driving kids.
haha as they say in PA (CLICK IT OR TICKET) LMAO.

CKM

Edit: though by PA state law a helmet is not required for motorcyclists. Now...someone tell me because clearly I just don't understand....how is it that automobile drivers are required by law to wear a seatbelt (in most cases it saves the life of the wearer, some rare causes have proved wrong), yet motorcyclists who already are not as visable and have no protective body or in a sense "cage" around them have absolutely not laws governing their safety. (with exception of they have to have turn signals, headlights, and brakelights). Apparently I am either too logical...or the law is irrational? haha. More power to the politicians i suppose...

Didn't the voters repeal the helmet law in 2003?

Well, before we rush and blame some 60 year old driver, how about how fast he may have been going, or if he possibly ran a light, I see idiots on bikes all the time that try and zip through a light after it's already turned red. I almost got hit by some idiot on a crotch rocket who decided he'd run the light, it was like 4 am, luckily I had a car that responded good to pedal! Besides, a 60 year old isn't exactly elderly...................

You don't have to wear them in PA. I can see not wearing one on like a harley or something but he was on a Busa.

Whether the voters repealed the law or not, it's idiotic to ride a motorcycle without a helmet.
