Best gun for a girl

Okay, I'm not sure what the concealed & carry laws are like in your area, but you need to check on them. Also, I'm not sure what the purchase laws are like, so you might have to do a safety class before purchasing.

Now if you are looking for a nice self defense gun, I suggest a 38 cal/45 cal/9mm/10 mm something along those lines. I also suggest a gun without a safety, like a revolver, or a Sig Sauer P226. In the emergency situation you do not want to have to remember to unsafe your gun. You might want to look into Glocks too (trigger safety). These guns address the safety issue in different ways............
Revolvers - no safety, uses a long trigger pull to assure for no accidental discharge
Sig Sauer P220/226/etc - no safety, uses a long trigger pull to assure for no accidental discharge (once the gun is discharged is goes into a shorter trigger pull)
Glocks - trigger safety, when you pull the trigger you are also disengaging the safety

Springfield Amory XD-9 4" Service. I've not gotten a chance to fire one yet, but it is comparable to a HK USP-9 on feel/fit in the hand though it is a bit heavier. It's also about 1/2 the price of even a good condition used USP.

For range time use FMJ for the most part to save money; but do practice some with whatever defensive round you decide to carry so you can get a feel for how it fires. With newer rounds like Hornaday's TAP I don't see a real reason to go with a .40. Get a 9mm to start with and then if/when you want something bigger go with a .45ACP.

I tried running some 45 ACP Hydrashocks through my P220. Man that was a fun but expensive exercise.

I don't understand the facination with that cannon. It's literally a cannon and was designed for light armored vehicles. Every time I get out on a rifle range I'll see tons of people sport'n them. It's like geez why don't they just get cannons.
