i did it off the shore by the kelp beds. its pretty challenging. first you have to climb down a cliff and hope the rocks dont make you slide down, its not a vertical climb, its a really steep homemade trail. then you swim out a 1/4 mile into thick kelp beds. you have to hold your breath and flood your snorkel or else you spook the fish, nothing can make any noise or else you spook the fish. if you look at them directly they spook. if your wetsuit rubs they spook. freaking everything scares them away . when you come up you have to push aside the kelp and make a hole or else you cant breathe.
you find one and sneak up on it and then shoot him with your speargun, the guns are really long about five to six feet or so and shoot around 20 feet accurately but it kinda takes practice. im still kinda on the lame side, but i can hit a twelve inch kelp bass from about fifteen feet the gun is a bitch to load, you have to pull a 20mm band backwards, it took me a week to get used to the gun so i could finally load it.
white sea bass sashimi is fantastic, really tasty. but i ALWAYS freeze my fish before i eat it cuz a lot of fish have worms. think salmon sashimi is safe? i have horror stories to tell you guys, lol remember im a biologist...

Couple of questions:
1. Gun?
2. Tried chumming?
3. Don't know about the fish in that area, but most fish are very inquisitive, have you tried scraping bottom, scraping kelp, etc.?

i bought several guns, jbls which are shitty. picasso which i dont like too much. the guns i shoot mostly are 110 cm and 120 cm rabitech stealth. the 120 is carbon fiber, im heading out again on thursday.
never tried chumming, it was a beach dive and im not sure if it would work for white sea bass.
yeah i talked to the hawaiians and they said you scrape the bottom and throw sand, ever hear of jason hijirida? he told me that once, he does the nationals and stuff. anyhow the ones here dont go for that, you just have to be quiet . although ive been practicing my croaking sounds and i brought in some small ones.
fishing is fun too, i used to do that ALOT . what can i say i love the ocean.

Howzit. It's always interesting to see what fishes are like in different parts of the world. I'm sure there's always something that can be done to bring those critters in. I have not heard of Jason, but then again I haven't been following the skin diving guys down here for quite some time.
Anyhow, I got a CRX that blows your awesome gas mileage.......... Click for The CRX

yah croaking is supposed to work but i cant get the tone right for the big ones! seasons almost over for white sea bass, hopefully i'll get one tomorrow...
that crx is sick, that has to be a sub ten second car, lol. i sure wouldnt want to be seen driving it. right now im torn between getting the stock d15 engine redone to save gas milage or chuck the gas milage and get the b16 (160hp) or the newer k20 engine from the rsx. both will require premium octo .
