I suspect that you guys in the Northeast will be entering this topic a little late. But what do you guys think about this power outage. My friends father is an electrical engineer and the power outage did not shock him at all. He said it was only a matter of time. I fear that it could be a very serious threat to our Nation's safety. Hopefully power at the Pentagon/White House/etc. didn't go out as well. Hmmm... things to ponder...[dunce]
I would just assume that our white house and pentagon and NORAD all of them have generators and just back up upon backup for these types of situations. I mean hospitals have backups i wouldn't really worry to much bro. hope everyone on the east coast is doin alright, while over here in cali i am about to vote for Mr. Arnold for govenor. Oh god what does the future for cali hold.[dunno]

I am not too sure, but "I'll be back" with an answer after the elections are done.
As stated, pretty much all serious targets have redundancy, and no this wasn't a surprise to me. The Niagra area grid is over taxed to the point of stupidity and the tree huggers have convinced everyone that our best solution is our worst (nuclear).
The threat from power failure is more one of inconvenience and poor planning. Old people die when it gets too hot because apparently no one back east knows to carry a bottle of water with them. Otherwise, it's a nuissance and a financial drain but not much more.
Actually, we had a similar event out here years ago. The entire Western sea-board went down, including all of Arizona, California, Nevada, and perhaps part of the North West. Again, it was one failure that cascaded before the system could sense a problem and brought down a massive chunk of the network.

Near as I've been able to discern, so are the rest of your choices.

It's a total circus. What a waste.
Yes, if I was a resident I would run. I mean I would only be what... candidate 299??? I find it a mockery of the political system that whoever the winner is will theoretically only need 0.34% to win.
