Default **Attn LA peeps** Need some help.

Hey everyone,

My 1 year wedding anniversary is coming up and I plan to spend a weekend in "smel-LA". I plan on arriving Friday, May 26th and leave May 28th. Staying at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in downtown LA.

Friday:
I need some tips on where to go. I know the CityWalk is close by I plan on hitting that up Friday night. Is that a good time to go? I want to do the "bar scene", I heard Camacho's is aight. How about that other bar at the CityWalk? The Saddleranch or something, is that a cool spot on Friday night?

Saturday:
Already have plans during the day, going to the Home Depot Center in Carson to watch some boxing (1st time at a fight) MONTIEL vs. GONZALEZ.

Here's where I need some help. What's the nightlife like on Saturdays? I'm looking for a trendy club to hit up, no ghetto stuff, I wanna dress up a bit. Not all super snobby but kind of in between.

Thanks for your help everyone.

I can't offer a lot of help being down in the OC, but i"m gonna guess that there's prolly not a whole lot going on downtown on a Saturday night. You'll probably need to head to Santa Monica/westside, the South Bay (Hermosa/Manhattan Beach) or even Long Beach (not too far from the Home Depot center). I'm sure Hexx or Gamma can give you better tips tho.

So are you asking for suggestions for bars to hit up on Sat. when you're here? Well, citywalk is an ok place but definitely not the place to find the "bar scene". Anywhere on the westside or on the Sunset strip area will probably be better, but be warned. The bar scene in the westside is notorious for having long ass lines and hard to get in if you're not on a list or know someone. If you're dying to get in, you can slip the door asshole a Frankie spot and that should help but that's not even guaranteed. I'd say since you're staying at the Boni you could cruise down to the Standard Hotel which is near by and has a pretty descent vibe on certain nights. Also, give us a bit more info on the type of scene you're looking for, the type of crowd and and the atmosphere you're looking for. Also, you might want to let us know how much you want to spend for your night out. Also, keep in mind LA is a bit different from other metro cities. We have everything you're looking for but it can be spread out all over LA, so try to be a bit more specific and I'll try to help out. I'm sure some of the other guys here from LA will chime in too.

Hit up club Highlands in Hollywood on Friday or Saturday night, you can call and make reservations for dinner and stay for the club, it's more dressy than ghetto.

Good tips so far thanks!

Well a little about me and the wifey and our "scene".

We're 26 year old hispanics (she's Mexican, I'm Guatemalan).

Our music interest (in order of relevance)
House/techno
Hip-hop/Rap
Latin (cumbias, salsa)
Reggae

Pretty much into all kinds of scenes...I want to keep it a bit upscale (since it's the anniversary).

Bars
Enjoy the "hole in the wall" bars but when I think LA I think crowds, so I want a somewhere fun, price isn't really an issue, I just don't have to wear a suit if I'm at a bar.

Club
Like I stated I want to keep it a bit upscale but not all "suited up" upscale (if that makes sense), I want somewhere where i can wear some jeans and dress them up with a trendy shirt (collared, buttoned shirt) and some nice shoes (no tennis shoes).

Correct me if I'm wrong but would you all suggest doing a bar thing on Friday and the club on Saturday? (I want to do one of each just don't know which to do when) Here in San Diego Fridays is for bars and Saturdays the clubs are jumpin.

OK, got a better idea of what you're looking for.

The Highlands is an ok place but I think the crowd there has taken a nose dive in the past year or so. You might want to try the Sky bar, Guiesha House, The White Lotus, etc. These are some of the places that my buddies and I usually head to for a drink and to just chill out. The Saddle Ranch would be more for a guys' night out and not somewhere you'd want to be with the wiffy. All of the places I just listed are the "types" of places I think you're looking for. Also, the Standard Hotel has a pretty "trendy" atmosphere and is sort of like a bar atmosphere but in a trendy environment. Hope that helps some more. Let's see if any of the other guys will chime in.

Awesome Zoom, thanks! Are Sky bar, Guiesha House, The White Lotus on the west side of town too?

Yep, they're all located in the "Hollywood" area. You should try checking out their web sites and see what you think.

Downtown:
The Grand Star Jazz Club in Chinatown. Crazy place. 3 floors. Go eat chinese and listen to jazz music, and then go upstairs to hear some crazy dj play hip hop. Line out the door on Friday nights. http://losangeles.citysearch.com/pro...rand_star.html
The Mayan. If you like Salsa/Latin dance music, go here. It's at the old historic Mayan theatre on Hill Street. Huge dance floor. http://www.clubmayan.com/
Start your night at the Hotel Figueroa poolside. Across from the staples center. Great chill ambience. Reasonably and well filled drinks. In fact, next time you're in L.A., stay here. It has these cool Moroccan themed rooms to be naughty in.. http://www.figueroahotel.com/
Weilands in Little Tokyo is a nice bar/girll too!

Los Feliz/SilverLake:
Red Lion Tavern on Glendale. German food, German Beer.
The Bigfoot lodge. One of my favorite places because I walk there. Talk about a hole in the wall dive bar that attracts people from all walks of life. No food, no lines, just alcohol in a bar that looks like Smokey the Bear lives there. http://www.bigfootlodge.com/
The Roost. I only mention it because it's a block away from the Bigfoot Lodge. Not bad.

Hollwyood/West Hollywood:
The Conga Room. If you like Salsa, check out this place while you still can. It will close in a month's time. Highly successful and had some great latin jazz bands come in. It will close and move to downtown. La Brea/Wilshire. It's the spot for Salsa in L.A. http://www.congaroom.com/
Red Rock on Sunset. Go upstairs to dance or stay downstairs and drink and chill. http://losangeles.citysearch.com/profile/11495218
Cabo Cantina. Tequila, Modelo Especial and lots of Mexican drinks in this little shack of a bar. Walking distance to the Saddle Ranch and what I used to consider the happiest place on earth: the Saddle Ranch. Don't take the wifey to that place!
Barney's Beanery if you want to chill and have a drink. Beautiful people there.

Have fun and I would highly recommend taking a cab to get to these bars that way you can get crunk and not worry about driving. Also, Valet and finding parking is expensive. Believe me, take a cab. Even if you are staying in Downtown it's worth it.

I wrote this in the lunch thread, but you gotta check out these 24/7 eateries if you're in town:

King Taco on 3rd Street in East L.A (where the 710 and 60 intersect). Ask for chili on the side or else you'll grab your ankles in the morning. Love them tacos. Drive there after the bars close and its packed. Don't worry, just cause its in East L.A. nothing will happen. Lots of security and Sheriff's hq is right down the street.
Pink's on Melrose/Fairfax, the Best Chili dogs. Crazy place, amazing who you'll see waiting in line.
Tommy's on Rampart/Beverly or Hollywood/101 intersection, the Best Chiliburgers. A must have if you're in L.A. Easy with the chili peppers though.
the Pantry on Figueroa/Olympic, has only closed its doors once in the 80 plus years it's been open. Go for breakfast and then take a nap afterward or go at 3am for a juicy ribeye steak.
Pacific Dining Car on 7th ($$$), near downtown L.A. Uppity steak place.
Canter's on Fairfax in West Hollywod, great Jewish deli restaurant that never closes.
Carney's on Sunset. My least favorite but it's in a perfect location off of Sunset.
