As if I needed another reason to not let anyone else but me do anything with my car...but can we be sure that is a nationwide trend? California has a tendency to be sneaky. It is all that high cost housing...too much pressure to cheat.

I can't see the vid because I'm at work. Can someone describe what the video shows?

Zoom: It shows the news station paying for services like new fuel filter and transmission flush. But Jiffy Lube does not provide the services. They go back later and question the workers, and the "fun" ensues.

How much is an oil change at Jiffy Lube? It seems to me that the Nissan dealers end up being cheaper than those types of places, and at least with Nissan dealers you know they've seen your car before.

Any time I brought in some sort of coupon for an oil change to an oil change place with my old cars they'd tell me some BS about having to remove some piece to be able to change the oil and want to charge $10 for labor to do that.

Pep Boys and Sears auto service centers each had their turn in the not-so-limelight in the 80's.

Of course some dealers will try to screw you too, so, as always, caveat emptor!

Thanks for the info chenga. I'd have to agree you never know with those small privately owned shops. Not that they're all bad or that the larger corp. owned places are good, but you just have to be on the look out. Sad how you can't trust anyone these days.

I stopped using Jiffy Lube a long time ago, number one, they scratched the fender on my '97 Lariat, but then they tried to deny it, never really liked their hardsell on other stuff anyway.

Plus they use Penzoil, which is known as a sludge monkey in racing circles...

Way back when, my friend took his Bimmer to Jiffy Lube. They said they also "took care" of his maintenance free battery. My friend said wow he didn't even see them pop the trunk. The guy naturally asked why.

My friend said "......because that's where the battery is."

.........last time he ever went to Jiffy Lube.

Mechanic scams are so easy for companies like these to pull off. Most people know very little about their vehicles, so they are easy prey. Personally, I would never take my $40k car to a Jiffy Lube, however, I use it for my wife's Jeep. They try so hard to sell her on all this other unnecessary shit to make a quick buck...because they think that she's an easy target cause she's a female. Now I take both cars in to get them maintenanced.

i've only had one oil change on my car, but when i got it, i took it to JL. i went in with my own oil and filter, i drove my car into the bay, and i stood right next to the car while they changed my oil. that's they only way i'd let them touch it. for anything besides an oil change, she goes to the stealer.

forget it...I want the media to investigate why the entire automotive buisness is so misguided and untrustworthy.
