Just got back yesterday afternoon.....the entire weekend was amazing. The thing is so well organized (except for the ridiculously long line to get an ID bracelet), the weather was nearly perfect (at least at night it was...mid to high 90's were a bit warm during the day), the music was great and diverse, and the crowd watching was off the charts.
My only complaints were: a) that I went with a group of people and ended up missing some good acts on Sunday because we couldn't get our asses over to the venue until 6pm; and b) everything costs a fortune and you cant bring your own food or beverages is (slice of pizza....$7.....12 oz Heini.....$7......16 oz water......$2) But, I did see:
Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah: Decent band, too crowded in that tent though
My Morning Jacket: Very Strong
Kanye West: Petty good set, but not his core audience
Franz Ferdinand: Easily the best act of the weekend
Living Things: Stood 10 feet from the stage....nearly lost my hearing but amazing band to see live
Depeche Mode: Only caught a few song
She Wants Revenge: Very moody but good way to end the first day
Paul Okenfold: Amazing DJ...you could feel the base pumping through your body and everyone (that's easily 10,000 people) was dancing
Yeah Yeah Yeahs: Another great set...Karen O has a STRONG voice and is kinda sexy in a really bizarre way
Gnarls Barkely: Only caught a couple of songs but one was "crazy" which has been getting a lot of air play...good sound
Madonna: Ok, I know I'll prolly catch flack for this one, but she rocked the house....30,000 people were at the tent in which she played...real short set though
DK Milo: spun some nice tunes including this kick ass extended mix of My Sharona by the Knack...come on man, how many people know this song???? It was too cool to be true
Scissor Sisters: I went with the group on this one..had no idea what I was getting myself into. Interesting band, strong performance, but the whole "gay nation" thing was not anticipated.
Bummed that I didn't get to see: Matisyahu, Daft Punk, Massive Attack, Seu Jorge, Tool, Louie Vega and others. Oh well....
Anyway, I highly recommend this festival to anyone who enjoys good music, espcially Indie rock and dance shit.
