Actually, I have said no on occasion and the checker has had someone get the item I could not find for me. I usually do this when there is not a long line behind me.
Latest situation was about a month ago, I wanted a vanilla bean and could not find it in the baking goods/spices aisle. I had planned to go to another store, but they had some that I missed and promptly fetched me one (at an outrageous price, but what the heck).

I was filling up in Clifton one night when this high school kid pulls up in his bone stock honda civic lx sedan, circa 1995.
