It was a complete cakewalk. They knocked me out for the surgery and when I woke up I was just a bit groggy, but could eat just fine so long as I tried to keep the food away from the back of my mouth while chewing.. mostly I chewed with my frontal teeth, like a rabbit.
I used to work a night shift in a supermarket at the time on some weekend nights... and I had initially taken the night off of work expecting my teeth to be sore and gums swolen. Surprisingly though.. I had like no swelling at all and no pain whatsoever. I didn't even take a single pain killer that they gave me after leaving the dentists office, and I was soo bored that night that I actually went into work and worked an overnight shift that night after having taken about a 3 or 4 hour nap during the day(my surgery was in the morning).
My buddy had his wisdom teeth pulled like 2 months ago(he's 27) and he had all kinds of complications with his. I guess he was swolen for like a week or more and then he ended up having an infection that he didn't find out about for like a month after the surgery..... which was later cured by antibiotics.

it all depends on the individual. some people swell up afterwards some don't. some have really bad post op pain although the procedure went smoothly. i don't recommend vigorous rinsing around the extraction sites especially for the first 24 hours or you will risk developing dry socket which causes an intense dull ache. the best meds are anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen. vicodin will dull the pain but ibuprofen actually stops inflammation AND kill the pain. as for novocaine, it hasn't been in use for over 30 years. we mostly use lidocaine and some variations of it. best of luck.
i got mine out at 16. i had a different experience though. the guy that took mine out was the dental guy for the Philadelphia Flyers Hockey team, he had his own pratice, and was really good. anyway, since you had to fast before, after i got out i asked my mom to take mine to DUnkin Donuts hahaha
so i ate a lot after cuz i eat a lot, and i had to go back the next day because some food got stuck in the cut in my gums.
Did he just hit you with a stick or a puck? I only had three wisdom teeth, two came out easily, the third was sideways, so it took some cutting, that one was painfull!

Slightly off topic, is it normal to receive 4 shots into the gum around a tooth then another 8 into the root area of the tooth and still feel EVERY SINGLE BIT of a a root canal?

yes...if you have an accessory nerve that is not being anesthetized or if there is an advanced infection. when you have an infection, the area affected will have a low ph...anesthetic works very poorly in low ph, so it's not as effective.

Ahh see, that's why ur the DDS in da house. It was probably lidocaine then ... I was 'speed hearing' (wouldn't have been the first time either) when I asked the dentist.

no big deal...the majority of the population thinks they're getting novocaine at the dental office anyways. are you a member of s2ki.com?
my brother used to be on that board till he sold his s2000 about a year ago...he was "redleader"
Oh okay! Yeah, he's also from NorCal. I'm sure I've seen the guy maybe have even met him before, but can't remember.
My cousin's got the S2000 back in late 1999. We've been on the forum since. I personally know and are very good friend with the SoCal forum mod(s) and many of the orignal memebers on there.
