one, you were a manager at a high end store, so can i make the assumption that you were or are still dumb as dirt? no. that's not a fair assumtpion to make. actually, the guy is sharp as a tack, and you seem to be pretty smart yourself.

two, please give me some brands and models that are better. if you'd buy a panasonic, sharp, rca, maybe pioneer, samsung, or lg tv over a sony one, please invite me to the money burning ceremony.

three, as for your friends that are high up in different companies, think. i'm mark igo. i'm the man at infiniti. why would i tell all of my friends and collegues to buy bimmers?

1 - i said most managers. not all. and i wasnt at a high-end -- just shitty CC.. haha .. but i had a passion (and still do) for A/V stuff...

2- all of the brands you mentioned are junk compared to sony.. mostly except pioneer elite, although that is made buy hitachi - which is normally better, but depends on the tech being used and model, etc. but, toshiba, hitachi and well for LCD DV - sharp is actually very good... depends on what you are comparing .. but Sony does make one of the best "common" direct view CRTs... they make one of the WORST RP CRT (except for a few models that were very good. it all depends...

3- as far as friends in companies.. they were true friends and liked other companies besides their own. they actually enjoyed A/V as a hobby

good choice. hitachi is the one manufacturing most of the good tvs anyways. they usually just have someone else's name on them.

Looking to stay below $1,000, preferably with HDTV tuner built-in. Component input is a must, DVI/HDMI input is desired. 27" 16:9 isn't that big; but I'm coming from a 25" 4:3.

I've not been impressed by the plasma displays in comparison to LCDs of equal or lesser pricing.

Umm i got a 30 inch Dell LCD HDTV capable (model W300) that was like 1400 bucks.. at no cost.. long story..! Its a bomb ass TV tho, then again I dont know much about LCDs or high class TV, ive been upgrading from an old-school 19 inch RCA a couple yrz ago... haha love how life is about UPgrades.. especially the G-Whip cant forget women too haha anyway overall its good quality, i sit too close tho and can see where there should be more detail, then again ive only played PRG3 on the xbox 360 (hdtv cables used) but and have watched some b ball games n it looks Clean n good.. u should consider dell for their prices are fair, jus compare the picture_

My personal pref. is the DLP technology. Better contrast and longer life bulbs than LCD. RPCRT will phase out IMO over the next 5-10 years as the production cost of LCD, DLP, and Plasma drop. Lifespan on a Plasma, for what it costs, is not worth it. As the gases erode, the color and brightness will start to fade and 10 years down the road, you may be wondering where your 7-10 grand went. This technology is improving and hopefully plasma lifespan will increase, but until then, rpdlp and rplcd are selling like hotcakes.

it's good you haven't been tricked into believing that plasma is better. i don't really think it is either. a plasma tv is like a good set of tires. they look and work well for the short term, but eventually they go bald and fizzle out.

I think the only HD option for a tv that size under 1k is a crt tube. They're still the best bang for your buck under 30'' due to lifespan and picture. The LCD flat panels are sweet and if you can find one under 1k, that may be a way to go as well. Many people can argue that you can't tell the difference between HD and standard on TV's that small. Also, you'll have to decide between 4:3 and 16:9 (regular and widescreen). The majority of HD channels are broadcasted in 4:3 so you may hate looking a s stretched picture all day on a widescreen. If you watch a lot of DVD's, widescreen would definitely be your way to go.

Jesus Christ you guys are bunch of nerds! It reminds me of Ironrice's "I need a gat" thread. I went on and on and on and maybe a few people could understand what I was saying. I'll remember this thread for later when I buy my ____________fill in the blank.

this is gonna be your best bet (IMO)
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6494135&type=product&productCate goryId=pcmcat31800050030&id=1077628885856

that 30" is $800 so the 34" should be like $1100 maybe you could find it for $1000...
weird, CC didn't have any widescreen Sony tubes on their site.

base: the 1K is a soft ceiling as I know my bonus will be at least that much. A HD tuner being built-in is a plus, but not a requirement since I go through Dish. Widescreen isn't really a question, with most of what I truely watch are DVDs I will be going widescreen.
