Default URGENT- Brembos replacement question

Hi guys. Nobody reads the coupe section, so hopefully I can get a quicker answer here.

My coupe is in the shop with almost no brake pad on the right rear and it has obviously ben digging into my rotor. The Infiniti dealer wants $400 for the rear pads, $800 for the rear rotor(s), and $400 for the front pads since there is only 2 mm left. So, a total of ~$1600 for a brake job

My questions are:
- Is there much of a cost advantage to buying Brembos myself and taking it to my mechanic to install?

- Is there a technical challenge with installing the Brembos so that the Infiniti dealer should do the work?

- Is it critical to use the OEM rotors?

- How much would it cost for me to purchase Brembos (not from Infiniti)?

Thanks so much for your help guys!!!!

i heard many people have switched to Hawk break pads and got less dust...they go for about $70/pair.....or Nismo's for about $150/pair.
Brembos can be had for about $250 for rear and $150 for front.

as far as rotors, i would switch to some slotted rotors which can be had for about $300/pair

Thanks uhoh. Where would I buy Hawk, Nismo, or slotted rotors at short notice? Is the Infiniti brake system more difficult for a non-Infiniti mechanic to work on?

THANKS!!

Cost for the pads is way too much money.

Yes..........and it sounds like the dealer isn't even lubing up. Run before your ass is rubbed raw.

Brakes aren't really hard to do. If you haven't done it before, you might want to have a brake shop do it while you watch. The next time you should be able to do it yourself. The only real pain in the butt thing is bleeding the brakes.

No. You can get better than OEM rotors for less than what the dealer is asking.

Brembos are a bit on the high side of cost since you are buying the name. Stoptech, AP Racing, Baer, Project Mu, there are a ton of good BBK systems out there. You should be able to get a kit for 4 corners for the mid $4k range if you want to go full out.

I got those prices off Grubbs http://www.grubbsperformance.com/Mer...5CoupeBra kes, they're a dealership in TX....I purchase a couple things from them in the past and was pretty satified with it. You can probably call them up and see if they can rush deliver the items to you.

Changing the brake pads should be rather easy, there was a DIY somewhere for it. I don't know much about rotors, but they don't seem too hard either, so you should have no problem taking it somewhere else for service.....

from what i understand (and i wish i knew this before i bought them) the nismo pads are manufactured by hawk so you can go ahead and save some dough there. Also, I got nismo pads for the front a while back and had some fitment issues ... they were like 1 or 2 mm too wide .... i ended up getting different pads and still have the nismo ones

Wow, the entire service manual online! And I paid $20 to download it all a few years ago, rats.
