I'm thinking this will bring more violence to that region, however we'll see. I still have hope maybe Hamas might want to change their violent tactics but I really don't think they will.
How many American voters actually voted FOR a presidential candidate vs. AGAINST? A lot of Bush voters did so not because he espoused 100% of their perfect candidate/party ideals but, rather, because they didn't want the other guy in office. I think it's a similar situation, jut in reverse. The majority wanted to oust the status-quo corruption, and were willing to vote the way they did even if it meant being branded terrorist. Time will tell if the majority will be williing to risk isolation if the old-style inflamatory retoric and violence continues. If not, they'll vote Hamas out too. Operative word being vote, so I see this as a glass half-empty AND half-full. In the interim, they know all too well Isreal has the military capability to contain or eliminate them.
I don't know, the only thing I really know about Hamas is their terroristic values and their violent behavior. Maybe it's because I only see them in the eye of the western media and their portrayal of them however from what I've seen they are terrorists in my book and now Palistine is a terrorist run state. However, I still have hope they might become peaceful. Also, I like to disagree with you Dholly about Israel's capabilities to contain or eliminate Hamas. If they did they would have done so years ago. Yes Israel has the latest weapons and tactics however winning a war against terrorists isn't about killing or eliminating them, it's about winning over the people. I believe the war on terror will be like the war on drugs and we'll be able to minimize their effectiveness but we will never win.
