Has anyone done the Petty Driving Experience? I am planning to do it at Kansas Speedway in May 2006. I would like to know if it is worth the money since it is kind of pricey ($399 for Rookie Experience). I appreciate any inputs. Thanks in advance.
OMG you're so lucky. I am the biggest NASCAR fan! Love going to the races even though I'm the only minority there. If you go report back and tell us about your experience!
did one like the petty school. it is called race-on. i got classroom instruction and then track time following an instructor-car for about 20 laps. it was very worthwhile!

This is very surprising...who do you pull for? I'm a Tony Stewart fan and have been for quite sometime...

I did this a few years ago at Lowes Motor Speedway with my dad for Father's day. We got to do 8 laps each for like $300 each as part of Rookie Experience. My dad loved it, but I was somewhat dissapointed because going 130 MPH in a car designed to do that did not provide any more thrills than going 80 on the interstate.

I'd like to see you control that car at Lowe's Motor Speedway now...they have that track so screwed up right now that you would put it in the wall without a doubt...

I heard some of the drivers complaining about that. The way Petty has it set up is way safe. each driver has to follow an instructor in a pce car, and the cars are set up tight so that you won't lose the rear end. I think if they let you get 150-160 on the straight it would be better. My corner speeds were the same as my straightaway speeds because of the pace cars.

I went to the Bondurant School back in the day when he was at Sears Point (Napa area) but I think that racetrack has also been renamed. Worth every dollar.

I would have passed that pace car and told everyone to get the F*ck out of my way...but I'm sure they had them governed so that you could only go "so" fast...

Trust me, I thought about it, but they were uppity and tight about their program.
I would love to do Bondurant or Skip Barber. Those seem to be actual racing school type programs rather than something to do for kicks.
