I think Bin Laden is an ever present threat while he is still alive and the only solution should involve his surrender or capture. Heck he might not even be alive now and his rumored existence still poses danger. Kind of an impossible situation that our soldiers are placed in if you ask me. This is why I have the upmost respect for the honorable people who serve our country.
I say nuke 'em all over there...pull our troops out and nuke 'em all...solve the problem once and for all...j/k
I wouldn't trust anything that slimy bastard says...he is making threats b/c we have crippled him and his organization...keep pushing and we will see him fall...
I admit to starting this poll not only to see what people thought about this, but also IF they really thought about this. I was curious if the general population had a tendency to either gloss over and/or stick their heads in the sand on matters of national security. Kinda like our government representatives do, IMO. Figured even if one might not care to write a comment, it would be be easy enough to just click in a vote. 5,355 members, 123 views and 17 votes confirms there is nothing but apathy or ignorance on this topic.
Remember the "9/11 - We Will Never Forget!" motto? What a joke. We had a neighbor's 20 y.o. son perish in one of the WTC towers. A brother-in-law's Pentagon office was totally obliterated, thankfully not with him in it. I remember 9/11 alright, and wonder what the people who choose to live their lives day-to-day without regard to the potential nat'l security dangers will say when it happens again... "Where was our government and why couldn't they protect us?" "They shoulda be doing something..." "It's Bush's fault..." Bah!
Just saw a report on how there is usually an attack someplace when one of these tapes are released. Usually within a couple of days. Kind of scary since he mentions the USA in the tape.

Seriously though, I think this is a good sign. We've gotten his attention with some strategic kills lately. The fact that he'd even offer a truce (legit or not) signals a concern perhaps on his part that he's losing too many of his internal minions.
Or, more likely, this is his way of letting the extremists know that he is still alive and well, and reassuring his folks that although we have picked off a few leaders, he is still around. More than anything, its likely a reassertion of his position, and will galvanize. Its not as though these terrorist groups are a strong bureacracy...... One figurehead is really enough propaganda to do the trick.

Your statement is exactly right...look at the people in Pakistan...they are chanting "Long Live Usama" after our bombings last week...

So what. We got plenty of our own suck-ass contingents right here in the good 'ol USA, just replace Usama with Jesse, Rev Al or Rev Pat. It ain't exactly like most Pakistanis in that area are concerned with global geopolitical matters or US national defense. Their primary concern revolve around their own day to day existence and religion, and anyone willing to provide them with handouts or fan radical fervor is naturally going to get their sympathies. HOWEVER, they are not totally ignorant of the US (and Pakistani) government war efforts and have been warned repeatedly they may attacked if they help or harbor the guys we are gunning for. Let them chant, perhaps folks from the neighboring villiage will hear them and think twice before hosting the next planning session dinner.
