My girlfriend's mom has always been cool to me. She's fun and outgoing. Her husband on the other hand has always been kind of a dick to me. He's a doctor and has been through some shit, so he swears his shit don't stink and he's stubborn as a mule. Only recently have we've gotten along better - 10 years later. But first he had to mellow out after he got shot in the arm by a hired gun (we suspect the disowned sister), his mom died, and the kids gradually started getting married and moving on.
Now I get a long with them, but when all of them are together - parents plus 5 kids and significant others (did I tell you that 2 of the kids are lawyers, and 2 of the kids are doctors) what a fucking nightmare it can be. It's all about who yells the loudest. I take them in doses. More than 3 days and I gotta get out of there!

sounds similar to my story. my gf's mom is wonderful to me. but her dad has never really liked me. although lately he's been a bit different, just about when i start thinking "maybe he's changing"... i get sorely let down
her dad thinks he's the shit at everything. his word is the law. HATE that motherfucker...
