Default Quit smoking thread

Today is day 5 for me
I have been a smoker for 11 years since I was 17.
I am using the nicotine patch and working out every day.
Wondering if any other smokers on here are trying to quit or considering quiting... Maybe we could help each other out.

Please no unrelated post whoring in here you guys

Today is the 2nd day I'm going to smoke cuz of xmas parties... Well I'm not really a smoker, at least I don't consider myself a smoker because I smoke rarely, like for 2 - 3 days then take a break for couple of months or so... then one or two here and there so I don't get addicted to that crap...

Anyways, good job on wanting to quit and actually really trying to quit! Keep up the good work!

Good luck Rami. I hear keeping around a bunch of chewing gum is very helpful to curb the routine part of the habit.

I quit smoking back in 2000 when I got horribly sick and my neck became swollen. Not the usual way but it worked and I haven't smoked a cigarette since then.

I've been trying to quit for quite sometime now, but it is really hard b/c my g/f won't quit and is always smoking around me. I have been smoking for 6 years now and really need to quit before it's too late. I can really see the effects when I play soccer...such a shame...

Dude keep bringing it up with her. If you both quit at the same time, you will totally encourage each other and help each other out.
The first week for me has been easier than expected, but then again I am taking in nicotine through the patch.. The hardest time for me is when I am work and I am used to going outside for a smoke break.. Now I try to take walks instead every time I need to stretch my legs..

I have to tell you, I had to quit smoking three years ago, health reasons, damn it was hard, but I did it, the first couple of weeks, I'd sneak a quick couple of puffs a day, LOL, same cig lasted three days, then I stopped completely, what helped was the straws they have at Subway, those are about the same size around as a cig, so I'd get a bunch of those, cut them in half, again about the same size as a cig, and suck on one when I got the urge, took me a while before I could even be around smokers, but now I really dislike the smell, funny huh? So, no more for me, besides, I have saved a bunch of money!

Thanks for the encouraging words everyone.

You cannot drink when you are trying to quit smoking... Because most of use associate smoking and drinking.. I know I could not drink hard liquor without smoking...

What I am doing is radical outlook on my health..
I was starting to have a beer belly, was not fit and so on...
I was drinking too much..

So my new thing is: Eat healthy (no junk food or soda) No smoking, no drinking hard liquor or beer ( I have a glass of wine and 1 beer here and there now) and working out 5 times a week... I think it helps when you take the issue of quiting smoking as part of a whole being healthy program...

I knew it was time for me..

The easiest way to quit is to die...
That's how I plan to quit.

I'm hoping that sometime in the near future, the lab can clone a new set of lungs for me.

Go STEM CELLS!

Caffeine gives me the urge more so than alcohol.
When I used to drink, I could burn through a pack within an hour.

Rami is right, I don't know why, but I know when I drank I always smoked more, it's like the two things went together, I really don't know why, maybe alcohol increases the urge to smoke. Getting harder to smoke in bars around here, for sure, all the Applebee's here prohibit smoking anywhere in the restaurant, and ALL restaurants here are no smoking by law, if they have a bar, it has to be enclosed if they permit smoking.

i think caffeine also creates a bigger craving like dizz said. it's very common, at least in the hispanic culture.
