I tried several times to add an avatar, and it keeps telling me it has to be less than 4kb? I checked several here and some are 12 or 13 kb. Is it because I am new here?

host the pics on a different site and link it. try a free service like http://www.photobucket.com

I do believe that the limits were changed at some point, so I would not be surprised if that is why some avatars are larger than others.

ABQ, did you make sure the url was placed in the field "Link to off-site Avatar" and not "Upload Avatar from a URL"?

If you link from a url the avatar must also be 64X64 pixels at the max. I had to resize mine and now you can't really tell what it is.

Yours looks way smaller than 64x64, jl... there must be a white border or something around it that you can crop off.

I resized it using photobucket and it shrunk it to 21X? pixels. When I get home I am going to mess around with it using an editing program to get the right size.

I requested a custom avatar that was not on the forum when I first joined and I think VQ made it available as one of the selection choices. Then about 8 months ago it turned into a red "Xâ€ and I needed to reduce no larger than 60X60. However, still see some folks that have larger avatars here.

There is something fishy going on....
