Interesting movie I saw over the weekend. A movie that requires you to think and pay attention. Very deliberate, very slow and methodical, but a very powerful movie.
If you are the cinic that believes that the US government treats Arabs as clients, and if you believe that the US Oil companies have a very strong influence on our US government, then what you will see may not surprise you, but you will be left wondering how much truth is in this movie vs. how much fiction is in this movie.
No matter, it will give anyone pause and deep thought nevertheless.
What I liked about this movie are two things:
1. They were not afraid to show America as the "evil empire" that would murder a foreign leader just because he wants to do some good for his country.. They would rather keep these countries underdeveloped as long as they benefit from that.
This is definately true at least to some extent.
2. I think they did a great job with giving terror a human face. It is not good enough to demonize terrorism and label these people as evil. To really fight them, we have to understand their reasons and motivation for what they do. I thought the movie was very good at putting a human face behind the terror and showing how poverty, ignorance and manipulation feed these acts of terror.

I refuse to give a dime to a movie that is blatant liberal propoganda. I hate politics and won't pander to ignorant, undereducated celebrities who are under the misguided impression that they know what the fuck they're talking about.
And btw, I'd feel the same way if it were slanted in the conservative direction too.

I doubt that last statement, but it really makes no difference to me if you see the movie or not.
Blatant liberal propoganda, hmmmm. I remember when the Chinese attempted to buy Unocal Corp and they were bullied out of the bid. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...080200404.html
Under the guise that China would be a threat to US National Security should they have this access.
So instead, we get our oil from the Middle East where I assume the threat to our National Security is lessened? Hmmm
I'm not saying who's right or wrong, all I'm doing is making an observation.
I like to watch movies like this. It's very interesting to see completely different views of the world through other people interpretations. Of course eveything is taken with a grain of salt but it does get a person thinking. Fahrenheit 911 and Fahrenhype 911 are a great combo to watch shortly after one another.
so im guessing this one is the comeback to the michael moore production?
my dad bought a book entitled "michael moore is a stupid, fat, white man"
Some might refer to it as a phony rebuttal while others may say it's correcting the falsehoods in Moores version. I recommend anyone who saw Fahrenheit to watch Fahrenhype. It's best to see as many sides to the story before reaching judgement. The hard part is sorting through what all the lies and smoke screens.
I really didn't pay much attention to the Syriana trailers and haven't seen any reviews. I was thinking I might want to see it because I like action mystery flicks, but I was totally unaware of what sounds like less than subtle political undertones. Now that I hear that, I'll be very interested in seeing those reviews, particularly from the liberal media outlets. Any of them put a rating on the movie yet?

That's the honest truth. I hate zealotry from any direction, left or right. We just happen to be talking about a left-wing subject. I know I'm in the military, a group that is usually very conservative, but I am actually pretty libertarian. I'm disgusted by the Republican v. Democrat BS. They are so much more alike than either side realizes.
As for the China issue, I could debate that with you all day, but I would probably risk losing my security clearance so I'll keep my opinions to myself.

Not much action, but plenty of intrigue and mystery.

+1, I agree with your last 2 sentences above. I consider myself a Libertarian as well.

Ohh, come on, don't be a tease. I mean seriously, we are improving economic relations with China, making them our allies, turning a blind eye to Chinese immigration into this country (I know this for a fact), getting a lot of our cheap products from there, ignoring most of the crimes against humanity yaddi yaddi yaddha and we would still rather deal with the middle east when it comes to our oil when 9/11 happened because of.... oh you know the rest.
