Dizz! You might be the one who is pretentious!
My point exactly.
It is such a simple film...the entire movie crowd was roaring during so many scenes. The characters were pretentious about wine...like we are about cars...like readers are about books...I got to see someone crying during the showing I attended.

Maybe that naked man running down the street after he was banging his cheating wife scared you, man!
Whoa... apples and oranges sister.
I know many of us can go on and on about a cars performance, style, prowess etc. but that doesn't make any of us "pretentious". Motorheads, grease monkey's or whatever but dont label car fanatics as pretentious.

To extensively elaborate about a bottle of alcohol is just boring and snooty.

I like Paul Giamata but this film is such a piece of shit.

Hopefully he'll redeem himself with Cinderella Man.

As for the naked ogre running after Paul, well that was the cue for me to go to bed... Angry.

I was somewhat disappointed with Sideways. Maybe because I was expecting something different and could care less about wine. It did have some witty/quirky scenes and worth seeing once though.

City of God is an awesome tale and well made movie. For another eye opening low budget film try "Narc". The entire thing was filmed in 45 days and the cast stayed on even when the director ran out of money to pay them. Jason Patric and Ray Liotta are among the cast.

Say what you will about the movie, Paul Giamatti is one of, if not the best actor making movies right now.

How can anyone not have liked Gladiator?

I thought that movie was fantastic on an epic level when I saw that.

I still love that movie. Lots of action, good acting, thrilling large-scale scenes, powerful soundtrack and a tight storyline.

This just may be the first time I've come across someone who didn't love Gladiator..... but, to each his own.

It's a movie made for snobs.
Yeah, and Sandra Oh's ugly ass(face?) didn't make things any better.

Another gem, "Oh man, she is HOT!" -Church refering Stephanie

If you indie film "critics" want to see what a real film is, watch "Once Were Warriors" or "Cicade de Deus".

Dizz is angry because he secretly liked the sausage bouncing down the road after Paul. Dizz secretely wanted their to be a gay love scene, but was disappointed and went to bed angry.

Wow, why all the hostility about a movie? What buttons did it push. To post about it here and in the 'stupid' thread seems like a lot of energy to expend over something you didn't like.

To each their own. For you, let it go the way of Ishtar and get over it.

I quite enjoyed the movie.

I didn't say I didn't like the movie, in fact I enjoyed it, but I didn't think it was Oscar worthy. I enjoy watching the action scenes everytime it's on cable, and I do like Ridley Scott, but I thought the movie was so linear and predictable.

Speaking of Ridley Scott movies, I just bought the collector's dvd of Blackhawk Down. Another good movie, but I didn't think it was Oscar caliber (except maybe for sound and editing).

And I just bought the collector's edition: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. You know, I've never ever seen this movie. I've seen little parts here and there, but I've never seen it in its entirety. This should be good.

I remember hearing about Once Were Warriors. It's set in New Zealand, right? Another good movie that came out of New Zealand was Whale Rider, did you see that? That was a charming small indie movie.

Dizz, I dunno, I'm kind of in middle on this one. At times, I thought the dialogue was good, but those two characters were so flippin easy to dislike that there were moments where I didn't enjoy it.

City of God was great. I saw it 2 weeks after returning from a trip Brazil and felt very happy that my trip there did NOT include any time in Rio

Maria Full of Grace and Motorcycle Diaries were also very good movies.
