Aside from various combustible materials, the food is quite good. I lived in an arab nation for 7 years and I miss the food the most. If you ever have a chance definitely give it a shot. The three items I mentioned prior are great to get your feet wet.
Hummus is a dip served with bread
Falafal is sort of an appetizer that can be dipped in hummus
Schwarma is a sandwich made with REAL pita bread, your choice of meat (lamb, beef) a few other ingredients and topped off with a cucumber sauce
i dont hate on mexicans.. and i dont hate on everything
sorry, but there is nothing good about mexican food... carne asada and fajitas are examples of food that are native THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE central american and south american nations... so it's NOT mexican food. MOST of the mexican foods are just taken from the typical latin american dishes, and twisted around with some kind of disgusting jalapeƱo and chili.
i dont need to head west in order to eat "good mexican food", ive gone to MEXICO, and i've tried all sorts of dishes in guadalajara. ive also been to leon, puebla, yucatan, and DF. it was the same crap everywhere i went.
gamma, please, give me a break. dont ever say cuban food is similar to mexican food... mexicans eat smushed red beans with rice, a piece of beef, and a tortilla... that's a typical mexican dish... cuban's on the other hand, black beans and rice, pork, and sweet plantains... BIG DIFFERENCE.
the most commonly dish for cuban's is lechon asado, not carne asada the most common beef that we eat is bisteak with fried onions on top... which tastes NOTHING like carne asada. mexicans rarely cook pork, but when they do, they eat it in fried chunks. we eat our pork in juicy slow cooked slices.
mexicans cook with tons of spices... TONS TONS TONS... it's horrible... cubans do not use strong seasoning like mexicans... you will NEVER see a jalapeƱo or onion chili in our food. NNEEVVEERRRR...
so dont tell me mexican food is similar to cuban food, please
I can't knock you any further if you've really tried authentic Mexican food. At least you tried it. I'm with Hexxx, the hotter the shit is, the better. I first burnt my tongue when I was 7. Ever since then, it's been numb to it.
By the way, I said the ingredients were similar (as in paella) and Mexicans don't eat red beans, they eat pinto beans.
And Fajitas, Nachos Chimichangas, hard shell tacos (and I suspect Burritos) are an American creation.

For desert try some Baklava it's to die for.
I've tried middle-eastern food. I even bit into an onion after as they say you are supposed to for better digestion. It's pretty good. However, I can't stand hummus. Those falafal sandwhiches are really good though. I love lamb, so they were really tasty while I was in London.
Yeah no kidding doggy. How the hell did it go from that to a discussion about Mexican food? How's it going @ Taco Bell? Are you working the drive thru yet?
goddamn people, reading this thread is making me hungry
jl9618: hummus and falafel are some of my favorites. schwarma too but I haven't found a place around here where they make it good. I first experienced eating all of those in israel and the food here just isn't the same.
cuban food is wayy good too. I've only had it a couple times but plantains = YUMMM
Falafal....
The only time I've ever heard that mentioned before was in the new Batman movie, when the crooked cop guy is buying one off the Arab street-vendor... and then proceeds to steal all the guys tips from his tip bucket.

paella is a dish from spain. it's made up of seafood... so yeah, of course the ingredients will be the same... unless you guys stick some more jalapeƱos in there
i guess i have a weak stomach
arent pinto beans the same thing as red beans? from my understanding, fajitas have existed in central america since the dinosaurs. just under a different name.
