I'm not saying that every single Dodge transmission breaks or that it's impossible to get one to last long, just that comparatively speaking... their transmissions have developed a reputation in the industry for being weaker than most of their competitors(Also, these aren't my words or personal opinions... this is just what I've found by doing research and by asking other people and reading peoples reviews online). These types of generalizatons are based on factual data and consumer reviews from 10's of thousands of trucks by each manufacturer(in which the trucks are used for many different things including daily driving, hauling, work-trucks, offroading, etc).

I'm sure your truck is fine for what you use it for, but that's just a single instance and doesn't offer sufficient evidence to refute the claims that Dodge trucks have comparatively weaker transmissions than their competitors.

Well that is just dumb. Right now I have all four wheels and tires off the G in the back of the truck. I couldn't get the tires and wheels of the truck in the back of the G.
I am not a construction worker but have hauled everything from hay to rocks to 1200 pieces of sushi in the back of the truck. Couldn't do it in a car.

Point well taken, so your are the exception to the rule.. Someone who actually uses their truck to haul around stuff Vs. the 90-95% of truck drivers out there who don't have a scratch on their bed linings.

I still think it is communist propaganda or worse yet, a vicious rumor spread by Ford owners.
In any case, this spring it will be a gift to my son. I hope it is as good to him as it has been to me.

Now if the would just bring back the El Camino..............

So, did you give up on this or what? It would be easy to spend your money but, if this is for a 2nd vehicle, why pay the big up-front cost premium of an import? Unless it's a daily driver, it seems mighty hard to justify the additional thousands necessary just sitting there. Well, at least for me, IMO.

I shopped trucks this year because I lost my towing and 4x4 capability after dumping an '03 Yukon XL. I also wanted that pick-em-up functionality and figured the 3 new drivers coming online in our family over the next 3 years needed something to keep from killing themselves, i.e., no little tin-can deathtraps, DAOPBD (deer and other people be damned). Since I figure it'll be beat to death, resale retention value was important, but not my highest priority. I also wanted a low entry fee so I wouldn't have to fret about the inevitable dings and damage, or tie up a ton of $ in a 5th(?!) vehicle or pay big insurance.

If you can live with a domestic regular cab, I would suggest checking out the GMC Sierras. Heads and shoulders above the Chevy in terms of mechanical necessities (locking vs. open diff, full-time vs. part-time 4wd, HD alt and suspension, payload cap. etc.) and interior appts (much, much nicer interiors if you go with cloth) for about the same $ if you bargain hard. The comparable model Ford did not offer the towing capacity I needed. Not quite as sexy as a Titan I know but, hey, real cowgirls just love 'em! A real manly truck, none of them girly curve fenders and such like on the 150's. Plus, as you probably are aware, The General has suffered a gut punch lately and along with the spike in gas prices, they are practically giving away 4x4 V-8 trucks to clear the lots, particularly regular cabs (I guess most domestic buyers want extended or 4-dr these days, eh Gard?).

Anyhoo, you guessed it, I ended up buying a well equipped 4x4 regular cab long bed for thousands below dealer cost on a cash deal. But 5 years no interest ain't too shabby either if'n you need to watch cash flow. They also had a Commercial Upfit Program bonus that matched up to $2000 in GM approved (not necessarily GM OEM) accessories. So I happily bot a 1/2 price hard bed liner, hard folding cover and TracRack along with some mats, pimpin' window shades and a bug deflector to make the kids feel cool... all for a little over $17k, IIRC. Well, ok, the window shades were for me so I can smoke cigars in the rain. Now, if I can only keep my daughter from locking the keys in "her" truck I'd be all set!

Good luck man! Why do I find the notion of roneski pimpin' down the LV strip in his new pickup so damn funny?!

Haven't decided yet. I'm still waiting on a decision to come down about this promotion. It'll probably be my deciding factor.

Don't get me started on cowgirls. We have history.

I did look at a F-150 XLT supercrew, but even with pretty deep discounts (about $2k under invoice), it was still considerably more that I can get a similar '05 Titan for right now. It's a pretty slick truck though.

Are you saying that real cowgirls love the Titan? Are you talking about New York cowgirls?

I have a 96 Dodge Ram with over 130,000 miles on it. I've had it for almost 10 years. I had the transmission rebuilt at about 75,000 miles for $2500. Now it is messing up again. The fuel pump is also bad. I bought a new one a few years ago, but never put it on because I would either have to drop the gas tank, or lift the bed off.

I love my truck, but it's about time to let it go. I'm sure I will get another one sometime soon.

Every man needs a truck!

Not true. There are far too many guys driving trucks that are dropped or never see a true load in their bed. Plus they have those damn ghey trucks with the mini beds.

There are far too many males who have no idea what a truck is supposed to be used for.

I think every man needs at least three vehicles.

Truck for hauling stuff
A luxury passenger vehicle
A sports car

The list goes on from there- motorcycle, helicopter, yacht, etc, etc.

I think every do-it-yourself type man needs a truck. But they are also handy if you're into fishing, camping, boating, etc because you can haul stuff on a trailer and also drive the truck offroad.

I can't see how a do-it-yourselfer who owns a house could happily manage his life without a truck. My dad is a do-it-yourselfer, and he's never had a truck... and it's horrible. He puts trash bags in his back seat of his old shitbox car and brings them to the dump. As a result, his car smells like a trash can all the time. He also scratched his roof to all hell by putting large flat boards on his roof and carrying them home tied down to the roof of his car.

Not to mention that the 4WD and super-high ground clearance is almost a necessity when you live in New England or anyplace that is prone to getting serious snowstorms.

Real cowgirls no matter where they live like heavy domestic iron, not that lightweight import tin. But ever since Edsel put that girly curve sensitivity into the F150 sheetmetal, ALL tobacco-spittin', bull-riding cowgirls wouldn't be caught dead in one even if'n they were fallin' down drunk or kicked in the head by a mule. Those 'trucks' have been relegated to UAV's (Urban Assault Vehicle), driven by fancypants wannabes who have seen about as much dirt under their fingernails as under their fenderwells.
