Holy cow, had to skip ahead to see what happened (not enough patience to take another hour or so to read the other half of the posts)...Major leaque ownage!
kid decides to sell something on the forum. He states price x in the sale, finds a buyer, cashes check, goes back and changes price, demands more money from buyer, everyone on the forum gets on his ass, he finally sends out the product which is used (was advertised as new), buyer sends back the product, seller sent money back.
Also one of the mods on that forum works in an industry with a lot of background information at hand. They posted pictures of his parents his job, his addresses. They were going to take it to the Postal Inspector if he didn't send the "buyer" his money back.
He has since got a check in the mail that he hasn't been able to cash. Madness!
As F'd up as that whole situation was, I have to assume that the people who took advantage of work resources to find personal info on this guy and his family were taking a HUGE risk themselves. That could easily lead to loss of employment.

True...but most (if not all) of the info is public record so its not like they had to have a top secret clearance to access this information. It's no different than most of us screwing off on the internet all day while at work.
prolly so. I was particularly thinking of the guy who had run the credit reports on the guy. Not sure how "public" that info is....I'd be scared shitless if it was!
