Ski towns, as well as Boulder, are notorious for the social acceptance of pot. There was an initiative in Steamboat Springs that would make the legal age 18 for possessing an ounce but it did not pass.
Honestly, I think it's just a matter of time before America fully legalizes it. The parallels to prohibition cannot be ignored and our prisons are filling up rapidly due largely to a substance that is medically proven to be less harmful than alcohol.
Have you ever been to a Bob Marley festival? Geez, I remember going to one in San Diego at the Sports Arena years ago. You walk into the arena and it was like walking into a big hotbox. You would see little sparks of light everywhere. People were dealing in the parking lots. Lots of security, but no trouble.
Donkey fan, if you ever go undercover and attend a tailgate party before the Raider game, there are 2 things you smell. BBQ and Weed. It's such a lovely combination. And it's so cool. Everyone is so friendly, people will share food with you, particularly if you have something to trade, and then the aroma of either the food or the weed will hit you. Good stuff. And Oakland PD is present, but it's all good.
I remember when a friend of mine told me that he went to Denver to visit a friend in mid-April. Then he said that for some reason in the afternoon, all these pot smokers gathered in the public square (I think this is in front of the courthouse no less) and started smoking weed.
I started to laugh and laugh hard, then he goes what? It dawned on me that it was 4:20pm on 4/20. I thought it was hilarious.
Ever check craigslist on 4/20? See how many shoutouts there are.
Never been to a Marley event but I did live down in Jamaica for some time. A couple of my buddies were chased by Rastas w/ machetes after accidentally wandering onto their crops Marijuana is such an accepted part of our culture that, like many have mentioned previously, it might as well be legal. Concerts, sporting events and ski resorts are very lenient, so much that sometimes you can puff down blatantly in front of the police without them even blinking an eye. If I'm ever in Cali for a game I'd totally go party down for a Raiders game (obviously not advertise the fact I'm a Broncos fan though )
There was a ritual, started by Ken Gorman who was a political activist for the legalization but now incarcerated, of Hemp rallies on the steps of the capitol building in Denver. It used to be a monthly occurence but tailed off after Ken was sent to the slammer. 420 was police code for marijuana/drug reports and has gained immense popularity among smokers. It's probably the best event to celebrate on that date as other notable occurences include Hitlers birthday and the tragedy at Columbine.

Really? I thought 420 was supposed to be a day of someone's death who was a pineer in weeed. Oh well who knows.
Nope, it's origination was from code from the police. Kinda like a 187. It has since found fame with similar dates/numbers ie; 4:20 am/pm (local radio station does on air bong hits both times of the day, stoner spelling bee) April 20 (4/20) usually there is a huge smoke out. Hitler was born on 4/20 which unfortunately was the inspiration for the columbine killers to do it on that day.
I think we spend more time and resources fighting the drug than helping out the communities. So what people get high and hang out, but you don't see them fighting or stealing. I would love to see weed legalized, but the thing is that companies could still drug test you and fire you because of it.

See I still agree with drug testing potential employees. You don't want a drunk, or pill popper getting off at work. Why would getting high be any different?
I don't disagree with you JL, I think regardless if it is legal or not, you shouldn't be doing it at work. But what if you do it on the weekends and got drug tested at work on Monday, would it be fair to fire you?

Exactly! I mean you can smoke some week a month ago, depending on how much and how fat you are, it can still cause a positive result. That's really not fair. They can't tell if you did it at work or not so they'll just fire you. What a load of crap.
