gz, deion was always ridiculed for his poor tackling. no one is perfect ya know. but i think you're getting off course along with gamma.... is deion cool or not??

cute, very cute, but versatility was my point. Does that make him cool. I equate coolness with being the OG and Sammy Baugh was genuine.

the babe was the greatest player in the history of baseball, yes, he should be admired for that. but whats your point? how does that translate to making him cool? joe namath... ok, i'll give you him ONLY because he was the only crazy ass to wear a fur coat with the sticker still on it in the middle of the field AND sunglasses in a night game NOT because of his promise. that means nothing.
okay, if cool means flash+pizazz, then I don't know about the Babe. So we concurr about Joe.

thank you for your history on the ABA, but what does that have anything to do with the thread at hand? seriously. how does the ABA make Dr. J cool??? which brings me back to my original point, just because he could dunk, doesnt make him cool NOW, if you were to say "eving was cool because he was able to revolutionize basketball as a whole" THEN, you would have a point.
If I didn't illustrate that point, then I went on a tangent. Thank you for illustrating my point.

you ask if anything exists for me prior to the 90's... of course... now in retrospect, does anything exists for you AFTER the 70's-80's (other than the raiders)
I'm sure there are plenty of things that were cool in the 90s and current era, but it is hard to find things that are original. everything seems to be a copy or spinoff of something. it's either sampled, plagarized, or just re-visited. I mean look at this very thread . . . who is cool? Both Bono and Steve Tyler are of the 70s, but they're still cool because they change and transcend. Johnny Depp? I remember watching him in 21 Jumpstreet when Fox was just starting out. Hugh Hefner? A dinosaur for sure, Playboy first came out in 1953.

So who's cool that's living now? I say Snoop, Bill Clinton (him and Snoop have common traits), Bob Dylan, and maybe Chow Yun Fat before he came to the U.S (of course credit should be give to John Woo). You say Deion . . . I say no way. Hall of Famer for sure, one of the greatest CB's, okay, he'd make my top 5, but cool???? Naaah. But it's a free country.

Like the way I brought the thread around back to the original topic?

The Doc DID revolutionize the way basketball is played. He still holds the record for the most points scored in one game.

Plus he rocked an afro and that automatically makes you cool

Deion is not cool. Anyone in the NFL getting paid the money he is should be getting ready to lay someone out!!!

Now Ronny Lott was cool, he was a MAN. Now you must understand how much of a compliment this is coming from me since;
1. I hate USC.
2. I'm a Bruins fan.
3. I hate the Niners.
4. I'm a Rams fan.

Deion is a pansy. Ronnie didn't want to miss a game, so he told the boys to cut the tip of his finger off so he could play.

Ronnie would routinely come in full bore on a 20 yard run up to kill a back. Deion would run his ass away and alligator arm something.

To summarize;
Ronnie = Man
Deion = Sissy

i guess it boils down to an individual's point of view of what "cool" really is. i really dont see anything cool about steve tyler, but thats just me.

now, this is the thing, you said "who's cool that's living now?" well, i thought Dr. J, steven tyler, and johnny depp are all still alive. correct? so even though thier best days are past them, they're still considered relatively modern day, correct? by the way, most of johnny's depp fame has grown recently. he was known for a while, but his recent pictures are making him an icon on the screen.

i get what you are saying though, and it's very true, everything now-a-days is a remake of something that has already been made. one of the coolest things i ever saw was joe horns cell phone celebration. did you see that gamma? now that was awesome

by the way, nice job bringing the topic back to the frontline

i'd say that most celebrities that i like i think to be "cool"...

Johnnie Depp
Morgan Freeman
Val Kilmer

Jeremiah Trotter

Dave Matthews

i know some of you prolly hate DM. but i've heard so many stories of people that don't like his music meeting/hanging out with him and saying he was one of the coolest people that they have hung with.
he's a pretty funny and cool guy - you don't have to like him to like his music. i still think he could be a comedian if he wanted.

Dean Martin. In his time there was nobody cooler.

I respect Ronnie and also respect the fact that he could beat the crap out of me. I'd kick Deion's ass!

Deion had about as much style as MC Hammer and isn't any cooler than the Baja Boys.

I'd put up Hershel Walker and Matt Jones as being cool, not so much for what they did/do on the field but the way they are in person.
