I never really though of Deion Sanders as "Cool".

He always seemed to me to be a guy that tried too hard to make himself look cool by giving himself names like "Primetime" and intentionally seeking out ways to perfect his image in the public eye.

I always felt that the coolest people were the ones who did what was natural and still managed to look good in the process.... while not really caring what people thought about them.

If you want a cool NFL Player... I say try Howie Long. Real Chill guy, always calm and wellspoken, hotass wife, and a great job.... not to mention a fantastic NFL career.

deion sanders has STYLE (well now he does). back in his best days, it might've been a bit questionable, but not anymore. besides, he has a real relaxed attitude. he's funny, and i think he stays true to his loud mouth roots. thats cool in my book.

howie long?? are you kidding me man?? i think adam vinateiri is more cool than that guy

I would classify "neon" Deion as flamboyant and outspoken instead of the laid back chill style.

Kind of like some of the stunts Portis pulls nowdays.

well, i meant laid back as easy going, and fun loving. I know he's flamboyant, but that's just primetime.

Hugh Hefner is definitely the man. I would love to be him for just one day!

Hef has definitely led a nice life...not sure how things are going for him now (although even just posing for pictures with hotties is a good thing)

As for cool football players, one vote I would cast would be for Bret Farvre. That guy just exudes quiet confidence.

LMFAO @ party!!!!

As far as football players go, Michael Vick always looks cool whether he is on the field breaking ankles or just standing on the sidelines.

I was waiting for someone to agree with me with regards to Hugh Hefner.

With regards to Deon Sanders . . . I held my tongue at first, but man he is not cool. Nor is Michael Irvin for that matter.

When you mention an athlete who is cool, you have to take in what sets him apart from all the rests. Deon and Michael are or will be future hall of famers . . . but did they pave the way? Are they the greatest of all time? Did they establish themselves as THE man for the position? Were they fresh? Simply havin' style doesn't cut it. Alonzo Mourning has style, but he's not cool, debatable for sure, but you need many things to be considered cool. I think if Jerry Rice would of retired while he was on top, he would of been cool.

You gotta be original, fresh, long lasting, rebellious, anti-establishment, have some sort of street credibility or humble background, and become an icon so that everyone wants to be like you generations afterward.

Joe Namath predicted he would win super bowl III when the Jets were 14 point underdogs. Then he lived that playboy lifestyle and wore the furcoats, let his sideburns grow, and was the man in the No Fun League. Julius Irving aka Dr. J hands down took dunking and street basketball to the ABA and made it WOW. And come on, did you see his fro? He was the man. Muhammed Ali . . . like I need to say anything about Ali. These guys all had style, were rebels, were the best at one point or another and set the bar for others to follow. Merely having style doesn't cut it.

Hugh Hefner is cool because he's the Playboy and was a key ingredient for the Sexual Revolution in this country. He had Marilyn Monroe pose nude for his magazine for Christ's Sake. The posters from his magazine are was admired by our GI's in Korea and Vietnam but hated by the extreme right for being pornographic. His magazine has interviews with every notable historical figure from Malcolm X & MLK to Kissinger to Snoop Dog and Pat Moynihan. He is cool, has style, business savy, and still gets laid from the hottest chicks 3 to 4 times his younger. That's an icon in my book.

Ghandi and anyone from the Renaissance are also cool. But then this thread could go on forever on who's cool. For example, I read that some Jew could walk on water, cure lepresy, raise the dead and did this cool trick with fishes and loaves of bread while fighting a corrupt imperialistic establishment. Yeah he was cool too, but like I said - How Far Back do YOU want to Go?

I think Deion actually did do that for the league. He redefined how the cornerback postion is played. He also is looked at as the starter of outlandish touchdown dances that are mimicked to this day.

And Micheal Irvin... he's the poster boy for narcotic fueled wide recievers
