To answer your question, I am in an ICAP-II squadron. ICAP-III only came into service within the last two months or so and only two squadrons will be getting them. My roommate is in one of those two squadrons. He says the new sytem is amazing.
Sounds really cool to me! I've got a bunch of questions, but I have to hit the hay so I can't elaborate too much. Here's a few (if you don't mind, of course ):
- How do the surveillance receivers differentiate between your own radar and that of an enemy radar (different frequencies, protective barrier between the transmitter and the receiver, etc?)
- Does the HARM missle have an exploding warhead that tracks all the way to the source of the radar transmission or does it explode and release some type of interferece to block the radar signals from reaching the squadron?
- Any chance of you getting on a EA-18G when they are released (that should be cool!).

Of course, feel free to tell me if any of this is classified. It just sounds really cool. My background in analytical chemistry got me interested in sensitive detection of compounds broken down to the molecular level using electronic components and I really learned to appreciate the importance of eliminating any type of background noise or other interferences by some really cool high-tech ways.

Well, got to go to bed...fly safe!!

Sorry to hear that, Hex. We all appreciate his service and bravery. I couldn't imagine being a firefighter in that type of environment...

Thanks ck. He definitely served our country well and put his life on the line in Nam. He saw some really dramatic things. One of the crew members got beheaded when a plane crashed on the ship and he saw the whole thing.

Shit hot! Do me a favor and shake his hand/buy him a drink for me because I guarantee at some point in his career he saved the life of some knucklehead in a jet. Those guys do good work.

Sometime ask him how he liked sitting on the flight deck in his silver firesuit in the middle of the Gulf or some other place where it was stupid hot.
Hey I didn't know Navy aviators used the term 'shit hot'. Sierrra Hotel muthafookers!

Yeah, I can't imagine it either. The pilot and that ground crew member both died. The plane was coming in with a lot of damage and he couldn't control it on landing.

We do say "Shit hot", but we DON'T say "cranium", "container", or "so to speak". It's head, box, and if someone infers some other innuendo from something I say, then I HOPE they are offended.
