Alright, who here has seen the video of the police beating in New Orleans? OK I give the cops the benefit of the doubt and maybe the 65 yrs old retired school teacher was drunk and resisting arrest however when saw the video yesterday it doesn't look like the school teacher was resisting. Also, I don't think punching suspects in the head 3 times when 2 other police officers have the suspect in control is legal, I don't think taking 3 sucker punches is legal period. Gard can you back me up on this? I do believe you are only allowed to use enough force to subdue the suspect. Also, I don't think shoving and threatening the reporter that was reporting this event is also legal. Well, I do understand that the many officers and civil worker down there are stressed and I commend them for their efforts. There are many good police officers down there doing their job. It just sucks that these 'above the law' fookers go and ruin it for the good ones. Oh and onemore thing, maybe the tape was edited to show only the beating but I still think the cops were in the wrong.

:sighs:
Yes you are only suppose to use "Reasonable" force..
I don't think anyone other than the ones involved really know what happed.. I'm leaving it at that. WAY too many debates about this and in all reality our opinions don't matter.
We arn't in their shoes, we don't know how it feels to be surrounded bu thousands of people who hate you and want to kill you.. don't know how it feels to be working such long hours with people who just don't care about anyone but themselfs. NO is a horrible place! I think it should burn too :nods:
If a 67 year old man was out on the streets late at night while the college students where out partying... wtf was he doing??
long story short - they should be in jail for a VERY VERY VERY long time.
excuses my ass. they beat the shit out of that poor guy. way excessively. i know many cops. and i really don't like them. well i like the ones i know... an di know there are many good cops.
but the fact is - most abuse power in one way or another - and it's bullshit - it needs to fucking stop.
even the dumb shit.
so pissed. i probably shouldnt even start.

if he was drunk, what was his B.A. level? That's right they never tested him...I could go on and on about how pathetic those peace of shits are, for doing that to an old man, but I'm not...justice will be served and they will rot in hell for their actions...
It happens far more that you think. Consider that if it hadn't been caught on video the cops would still be on the street and the old man would probably be in jail facing felony charges for assaulting the officers and resisting arrest.
There have also been many other instances of reporters being threatened by police officers for doing their job. It's scary to think that the free press is the only thing keeping some of these guys in check.
I know that it's a bad situation down there, but that just doesn't give them the right to beat down anyone who rubs them the wrong way.

I really don't think you seen the video and unless you got your ass beat by the police Supra you don't know how they abuse power. I got my ass jumped by cops before and they said I was on PCP. Of course I wasn't but that was their excuse. Anyways, there are many cops who do abuse their power and I've seen it first hand. I don't the the whole story behind this beating in NO, but from what I did see it seems like the cops were just beating this guy with no justification. I mean when they realized they were being filmed the cops threatened the AP reporter. Hmmmm, I don't think innocent cops would try to hide anything. Also, in the tape one of the cops punched this guy 3 times from the back while 2 cops were holding him against the wall. I really don't think it takes too much to hold down a 60 somthing yrs old retired school teacher. You call that resonable? I don't think so Supra. "If a 67 year old man was out on the streets late at night while the college students where out partying... wtf was he doing??" -Supra, so you never go out at night to get cigarettes or something? You never go out just to take a walk? How do you know he doesn't live in that area? Yea we don't know the whole story but watch the video and see what you think.

Just reading this and the attorney for the cops said, "He clearly was not hit in the face," DeSalvo. WHAT?! Ok I've seen the video and one cop hit the guy in the face 3 times!!!! Whatever.

TeayotaSoupra has the somewhat unique perspective of someone that is training to become a police officer.
Police deserve to be respected, it is a high stress difficult job. But they don't always make good decisions. And what's worse they can easily fall into a "us vs. them" gang mentality in situations like that.

I lost alot of the respect I had for cops when I was younger. I have seen far to many people get pulled over and ticketed for DWM to feel that they ALL deserve my respect. Respect is earned not just given.
One more thing, "The video shows that when Matthews held up his media credentials, the officer shoved him backward over a car, jabbed him in the stomach and unleashed a profanity-laced tirade." AP News.
Yea, this was also resonable use of force. Sheesh.

So true. Like I said Supra, there are alot of good cops out there but there are shit bags doing this shit. I admire cops for doing their jobs because it's not an easy job. However, as cops they need to held to a higher standard than the rest of society. They need to be able to control themselves. So you can "SIGH" at my remarks all you want Supra but the fact is there are alot of cops who abuse their power and the ones that does needs to be taught a lesson.

Definitely a sad situation. As a minority in SoCal, I myself have had a few unfortunate experiences with LAPD myself. We need police to help keep the peace but sometimes we need someone to protect us from our so called protectors.
I think this incident represents what occurs all over the country. Fortunately this one was caught on camera and will hopefully see the light of justice. The ones that are not caught on camera tend to shape a lot of peoples opinion of Law enforcement even though they are not in the spotlight. Police will always get a bad rap from at least one group but incidents like this speak to the whole population. After enough people have been treated like this and then had the incident swept under the rug I can't help but directly blame the police for at least part of the negative image they have.
