Provided that a vehicle has a clean background and is selling for a good price.. would you buy a vehicle on Ebay for over $7000?

Sure why not? Obviously you don't want to get scammed by a thief or burned by a seller who misrepresents, but there are ways to prevent that. Just make certain to include in your written purchase agreement that buyer acceptance of the purchase is subject to physical inspection at pick up or upon receipt if delivered. Not likely a seller would agree to the latter but, then again, I ssuspect you would most likely go pick it up anyway. I would also insist on a refundable deposit, and would be ok with a [very small] 'service fee' should I decide not to complete the transaction for reason other than gross misrepresentation. And, of course, I would require a truckload of detailed photos before even considering it. That said, I can't believe you are unable to find what you want off EBay. Vehicle prices on EBay are often inflated and I would continue looking locally.

dont they still charge you for shipping though? both ways???
Who is "they"? Traditionally delivery arrangements and expense are are the responsibility of the buyer unless included in the selling price.
ok, but IF you dont buy the car. who's gonna pay to ship back to where the owner is?? not the owner i'll tell you that much.
"they" = ebay or the owner
Actually, I got mixed up in a situation involving a car purchased off of Ebay and the seller paid for everything- shipping from Denver back to LA, plane ticket to LA, hotels, repair cost w/ the dealer and gas for the entire trip. I think I was out $250 for food and a brief stop in Vegas
I know my situation was probably best case scenario but there are ways of protecting yourself to ensure the transaction goes smoothly and gaining a superior negotiating position if it does not.

Sure, why not? Use a good, reputable, third party inspection company. Protect yourself by knowing all the ins and outs of buying the car - taxes, transport, documentation, etc.
I don't blame ebay for what happened. I even picked the car up in person before exchanging any funds. The way they cleaned the title was very smart but there are ways to protect yourself through the finance company since it is their collateral. They should be more than willing to help especially if its an out of state purchase.
I didn't buy the G off of Ebay but I did buy it out of state off the internet and then shipped without seeing it in person. It's been the best car I've owned so far.
It was a very nice vehicle. I drove it and everything functioned perfectly... the car was absolutely mint in just about every possible way.
Unfortunately, I didn't win the auction. OH well... I'll find another one soon.

So the winning bidder on the auction had 0 for a rating, no feedback and his account was like 15 days old.
I got an email from the dealer who was selling the vehicle which said:
"art,
the truck did not sell are you still interested?
dave"
I'm not sure if it didn't sell because the final price was too far below the reserve, or if it was because the winning bidder was a deadbeat and/or had no feedback.
I'm trying to think of the best way to handle this situation. I was thinking that I could either reply to his email with "Yes, I'm still interested" and leave the ball in his court... or I could respond and say "I'll give you my final bid price, before being outbid"... which would leave him the option of asking me to go higher(such as the final bid, or higher). I am just not sure if he wants me to go way higher, but I don't want to ask why the truck didn't sell, because then i lose my power of being able to ask for the truck at my highest bid price.
Any input?
