Default For GZ and Jay

I think I'd mentioned in the past that I participate in a non-company sponsored company golf league here where I work. It consists of 16 2 person teams split into 2 divisions. Each team plays the other 7 teams within their division, 9 holes only, and each match is worth 3 points, 2 each for individual match play events (A vs A, and B vs. B), and a 3rd point for low team net (everything is handicapped). At the end of the season, the top 2 teams from each division play eachother then the winners of those matches meet in the final.

My partner and I finished first in our division, and won the first play off. This morning was the championship round which we also won (for a not inconsequential sum of money ) I shot a 40, net 33 today to win my match 4 & 3. But that's not really why I wanted to write all of this, no the reason is in the how the match was won.

I started strong taking 3 of the first 5 holes and halving the other two. On the 6th hole (an uphill 190 yard par 3), I yanked my tee shot about 40 yards to the left of the pin, nearly onto the adjacent green. My opponent, meanwhile is just off the front of the green laying 1, so he's feeling pretty good about the hole. So, I have to hit a high, soft pitch shot up hill, from hard pan, over a bunker, to a tight pin. What happened you ask???? I holed it out!! on the Fly I didn't actually see it go in because it was uphill, but I heard it hit the stick and my partner screaming at the top of his lungs....the best part of all was my opponent stalking around the green yelling "NO FUCKING WAY!!! NO FUCKING WAY!!!". It was as glorious a moment as I've ever had playing golf. So, that was it, he went on to get a 5 on thehole and I closed him out. What a great way to start a Friday

By the way, GZ, I found out a couple of days ago that I'm heading to Honolulu in a couple of weeks for an annual convention we host. I think I fly in on 10/8 and come home the 12th/13th. I'm not yet sure what my schedule is, but I'm thinking of bringing my sticks if you have any interest in playing a round. Let me know.

Congrats Doggy. BTW Mr. 40 you are not a 14 index.........sandbagger.

We'll play a couple of times if you're here for several weeks.

Thank you! Oh yeah, it was a 41 not a 40, but still within the realm of sandbagging criticism, I admit. But, my handicap in this leauge is legit. IT's based on the average of the 5 lowest scores from the last 10 rounds. Very similar to the USGA calculation. I just happened to play particularly well today and my little 3 points shot saved me at least 2 strokes

I'll keep you posted RE that upcoming trip.

Dear Mr. Sand-Bagger,
I reject your theory on the handicap system. In the very least I feel that this will chop a good 3 strokes off your index. Please have the index revised when coming to Hawaii.

Mr. Pig

PS - Bring your sticks, while we have pretty decent rental sets down here they are pricey.

Congrats doggy, that is how I made my first birdie ever... Par 4, 415 yards, tee shot was about 250 leaving me an easy 165 yd shot, which I hit fat and only flew about 100 yds...so I have my 3rd shot from about 65 yds out and I use my SW and hit a loft shot right at the pin, hits about 2 ft short and rolls in...my first ever birdie...

Also Doggy, I have to agree with GZ, that 14 handicap sounds alittle fishy to me...

By the way I shot an 86 this weekend GZ...

86...not too shabby! As for the handicap, I put my scores in the computer and that's what comes out...nothing I can do about it

He would have to have shot over a ten on every hole...I could do better then that with my wedge and putter only.

Fortunatley, it wasn't a hole in one, so no drinks were bought (it was at 7:30 am anyway...bar was closed). BUT, that shot did win the league tournament which was good for $500!!!! Should've bought the lotto ticket......$250MM this last weekend!!!

All I have to say to you Doggy is bermuda greens. Beware of Hawaii's bermuda grass it's going to be more break than you are used to.
