CHICAGO -- Brian Griese agreed to a five-year deal with the Chicago Bears on Tuesday, adding depth at quarterback and a potential challenger to starter Rex Grossman.
"I don't think there's any question he's going into the position to compete for the job," Griese's agent Ralph Cindrich said. "That was made clear."
The 31-year-old Griese completed 112 of 174 passes for 1,136 yards and led Tampa Bay to a 5-1 start last year before a season-ending knee. The Buccaneers decided to waive him this month rather than pay a $2.6 million roster bonus.
Griese has passed for 16,344 yards and 103 touchdowns in eight seasons with Denver, Miami and Tampa Bay.
Cindrich said Griese passed physicals with the Bears, Cincinnati and Tampa Bay, and "he'll be ready to go" in time for minicamp. Cindrich, who would not reveal the financial terms of the deal, said the contract will likely be signed on Wednesday.
The Bears have said they are committed to Grossman as their starter, but Griese has started 72 of 75 games in his career.
Aside from a couple small moves the Broncos made their first significant move this off season in a 3 way trade to move up one of our picks in the first round. Maybe Shanahan is just gonna focus on landing some young talent instead of paying for some free agents???
Jets sign WR Dwight to four-year, $4.2M contract

The New York Jets have added a versatile playmaker to their offense and special teams units, signing unrestricted free agent wide receiver and return specialist Tim Dwight to a four-year, $4.2 million contract that includes a $750,000 signing bonus.
The well-traveled eight-year veteran, who also drew interest from the Pittsburgh Steelers as a free agent, played for the New England Patriots in 2005, and he will be joining his fourth NFL franchise overall and third team in three seasons.
In Dwight, the Jets are getting a veteran who has missed an average of 3.4 games per season to injury, but who still possesses some of the raw explosiveness with which he entered the NFL in 1998, and who can handle a lot of different chores. Dwight, 30, can serve as a No. 3 or No. 4 receiver, can return punts and kickoffs, and has even lined up as a nickel tailback in the past.
Dwight has averaged 16.1 yards every time he has touched the ball and has 32 plays of 40 yards or more during his career.
In 101 games, the former Iowa star has 172 receptions for 2,754 yards and 17 touchdowns, and 49 rushes for 340 yards and three scores. Dwight has returned 202 kickoffs for an average of 23.4 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and 162 punts for a 9.7-yard average and three touchdowns. With the Patriots in 2005, Dwight appeared in all 16 games for the first time in his career and totaled 866 all-purpose yards. Used primarily on offense as a No. 4 receiver, he had 19 catches for 332 yards and three touchdowns.
Earlier in his career, Dwight's kamikaze style often resulted in injury, but in recent seasons he had learned to play more under control.

Maybe, it's been kind of quiet in the AFC West. Drew Brees going to Miami, Mike Anderson going to Baltimore, Art Shell being hired by the Raiders, and Kerry Collins being cut are the preeminent stories. Still waiting, still biting their time I guess.
After refusing pay cut, Moulds allowed to seek trade
Associated Press
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Eric Moulds has the Buffalo Bills' permission to seek a trade, the latest step for the veteran receiver who asked for his release after repeatedly rejecting the team's demands to take a pay cut.
"We are shopping Eric," Moulds' personal adviser, Greg Johnson, told The Associated Press on Tuesday. "Obviously, we would much rather have Eric released. But if we can work out a trade, we will. But if not, we're back to Square 1 and Eric won't play for the Bills. He doesn't want to play for them, and he will not play for them."
Johnson said several teams already have expressed interest in Moulds since the Bills granted their permission on Friday. Without providing details, he added, the team has set parameters on what it would seek in return in a potential trade.
"It's moving forward to a degree and we anticipate something happening," Johnson said.
Moulds, a 10-year veteran and the Bills' senior player, has two years left on his contract, but was scheduled to count about $10.8 million against the salary cap next year. The Bills deem that figure too expensive but have failed in their bid to have the receiver restructure his contract.

yeah it has. We've signed two FA's. AJ Smith better get crackin on draft day.
(March 22, 2006) -- After failing to land Daunte Culpepper, after declining to bid on Drew Brees, the Oakland Raiders called for their version of their quarterback keeper.
They reached agreement with former Saints quarterback Aaron Brooks on a two-year deal worth about $8 million. There was some speculation that Brooks could visit Green Bay, but he passed up any chances to stay in Oakland.
Now, Brooks becomes the favorite to be Randy Moss' starting quarterback, Andrew Walter and Marques Tuiasosopo are likely to be back on the bench, Kerry Collins will not be returning to Oakland, and the Raiders have added their first significant offseason piece.
The Raiders told Brooks he would compete for the starting job -- no promises in advance. But he gives the Raiders the veteran presence they need.
It's a nice present for Brooks, who will turn 30 years old March 23.
Brooks managed to latch on to one of the few teams in the league that still had questions as to who would start at quarterback. At this point of free agency, starting jobs did not exactly abound, but Brooks found one.
Oakland views Brooks as a quarterback that has averaged 25 touchdown passes a year, and a player who can be a star if he learns to limit his mistakes. Other NFL teams view Brooks as a poor man's Culpepper, the quarterback the Raiders initially targeted. Somebody's right, and the Raiders are rooting that it's them.
Ahhhh fuck. I've been following this story for a while. I know he spent two days in Oakland and was strongly viewed as a candidate, but I didn't want to read it.
The guy is mediocre, average at best. I believe the reason they signed him is for him to play a year and then have Andrew Walter start. There's no way the Raider franchise is going to keep this guy for more than as a season as a starter.
For my 2001st post, I'd just like to say to all the Raider haters out there, particularly the ones with no superbowl championships . . . fuck you and kiss my brown ass!
Thank you, thank you for helping me make this momentous occassion. I couldn't of done it without you.

Hey hey just because you were like 4years old and probably still wearing diapers the last time the raiders won anything doesn't mean you bring up your passst, it is pretty pointless to resort to your "good years" as a scapegoat! LMAO!!!!
