Default Time to get serious!

Ok, I've decided that I want to work out seriously and want to get on some supplements. I've been just taking protein shakes but I heard that creatine and protein works really well together, however I've also heard some negative things about creatine, like it gives you cramps and messes up your liver. Does anyone have any personal experiences with creatine? Do you recommend it? CK I know you know something about this, give us some insight.

You look pretty damn great already...but if you want to bulk up without creatine you might try eating six meals a day. That is what GNC told my friend after I said to call them and ask about the downsides of creatine.

Stay away from creatine and go with muscle milk 2 times a day and also eat every two hours. This will supply your body with the proper amount of nutrients for you to bulk up quickly and safely.

Six meals a day? Wow that's too much. I can't cook worth a damn and I don't have the funds to buy six meals a day. Actually, I really do need to switch up my eating habits also. All I've been eating is TV dinners and fried chicken. Anyways, with the six meals thing, I'm thinking it could get me fat instead of giving off lean muscle mass but then again eating often can boost metabolism. Hmmmm I gotta start researching.

Like many other things in life, the bad things you hear about Creatine affect a small portion of the people takikng the stuff. But, it was enough to keep my away from it, plus I have high blood pressure and all that stuff does is cause you to retain more water in your muscle mass...retaining water not good if you have hi BP.

Protein shakes and eating lots of proteins (not the fried variety, unfortunately) throughout the day (the 6 meal thing alluded to earlier) is a good way to go. These are supposed to be smaller meals that the 3 a day you probably eat now so its not too bad on the budget. But spending the kind of time needed to prep 6 meals a day is not easy! But some people just aren't built for weight gains. I am one of them, so I just gave up the hope of having bulging muscles and instead target a slim waste line (not so easy at 40!)

TV dinners and friend chicken?!?...careful now or you will get my womanly instincts going and I'll have to show up at your door and teach you how to cook! Not that my fried chicken and mashed potatoes and gravy isn't the bomb...but I reserve it for special occasions...the rest of the time it is spicy homeade salsas on marinated salmon with rice/beans or lean roast with lots of veggies, etc... You have to plan meals or you will end up as we all do...eating what is convenient or lying around or a quick drive thru away.

What the heck is with all the double posts?

If that's the cool thing to do... someone forgot to send me the memo.

Hi iron. Unfortunately, I can't provide any additional info in this area other than to suggest that you look at all of the potential risks associated with any supplement that you plan to take, especially if you take any additional prescription drugs. There are a lot of gray areas regarding the safety profiles of these supplements since they are not regulated by the FDA. It is very likely that there may be more adverse effects other than cramps and liver toxicity, so be careful and use only as recommended on the label. If you do decide to take any ot these supplements, let me know what you choose and I'll try to find out more safety info for you. If you are taking any other meds and want me to check for any potential drug interactions, send the list to me via e-mail (if you don't want everyone to know what you're taking) and I'll look into it for you.

a "meal" can be something as little as one protein bar, two Tbsp of peanut butter or a protein shake. you'll also find yourself eating smaller portions than you traditionally did when eating 1-2 meals per day. if you're a busy person with little free time, the trick is making yourself eat consistently even though you do not feel any hunger.

Also, when you're eating six meals aday, it is usually every two hours. And by meal I mean a grilled chicken sandwich or a hamburger, not a full course meal. This will increase your metabolism and burn the fat quicker. Drinking the muscle milk will allow your body to retain the proper nutrients not just water.

at your age it's impossible without the use of anabolic steriods to gain muscle mass without also gaining fat. you will first want to bulk up to about 10 lbs. over your target weight and then "cut" (doing mostly cardio and only lifting and dieting to maintain muscle mass) to reduce your body fat percentage. this is the stage when you will begin to look ripped.
