I'm gonna be like a kid in a candy shop when my new PC arrives at my house tomorrow.
I've never had a cutting edge computer system at my house before now(usually my home PC is about 5 years behind the times in terms of technology).
Dell builds their shit fast, I tell ya.
What are some good games to play on a new computer? I got the NVidia GForce 6800GT Video card, so it should be able to handle anything, assuming the LCD Monitor can support the resolution.

Depends on what you like, I prefer MMOG's - never get tired of them since they are ever changing, and you can have around 3,000 people all in the same virtual environment at the same time, always someone to talk to, fight, group with, etc. Sure they are like $15 a month, but that's the price for a cheap movie for 2 and some refreshments, and that's what - 2 hours of entertainment?
Ok I'm an advid closet gamer so here is my list to buy. For shooters: Half Life 2. This game is one of the best I've played. It's ez to pick up and the atmosphere it delivers is second to none. The grafix is pretty good and the physics of every movable object really enhances the experience. The sound is great and the AI of the enemies is great. Also, the it comes with Counter Strike: source which is one of the most played multiplayer game. If you really want to show off your grafix get Doom 3. The game play is old school but it's one of the most beautiful games out there. Also it's one of the most scariest game I've played. Cronicals of Riddick is also a great game. It's more of a action/adventure game with plenty of puzzles and action to keep you busy. The story is also great and it will keep you engaged. Halo is another great game, the grafix are showing its age but you will still have fun playing it. If you're a Star Wars fan check out Star Wars Republic Commando, I only played the demo but it has everything to keep you on your toes. Far Cry is another good game. The grafix are great and so is the gameplay. Also, check out Max Payne 2, it's like being in a John Woo movie with some Matrix elements. If you are in to RPG, check out Guild Wars. It's the only Massive Online RPG that's out there where you don't have to pay a monthly due. For strategy, I love WarCraft 3. It's ez to play but hard to master. Get the games at Ebay, it's much cheaper.

That's the specs of the system. I priced it out today on the Dell site to see what the current cost of this system is and it came out to $2161.
I managed to catch an awesome deal last week and got it for $1350.... which I'm pretty happy with.

Back to the question. Sorry can't help you out on games for the PC. My preference in recent years has been to go to a gaming platform like X Box or PS 2. I just hated that the PC games could be so unstable due to the system you are running, plus they seem to get ported over to one of the two platforms anyway.

Hmm I totally disagree G. These days most of the games out there are very tolerant to different specs and as long as you system isn't set up like crap games should run pretty smoothly. I built my system, not from scratch but upgraded everything except for the harddrive and the CD ROM and my games run smoothly even though I don't know jack about building computers. Just the fundementals.

I've been out of it a couple of years, but once you start loading a bunch of different software on your computer it just gets funky. When I got my first system with XP it was no different.
Unreal Tournament killed my interest in running games on a PC. Now it's out for the gaming consoles. Just too much headaches and the machine I had was cutting edge at the time I got it, a total speed monster.

I tend to lean towards the gaming consoles for most gaming experiences in general too... but I really needed a good PC at home. There are also some good games for PC's that they just don't offer on X-Box or PS2, so I've heard.
Being a professional software engineer and having a crapbox home machine is not a good combo. Particularly of late, since I've been experimenting with some of the newer graphics engines in some of my free time at home... and the shoebox and gum machine that I am replacing with the new Dell, wasn't doing the job.

Battlefield2 looks pretty sweet, comes out Thursday I believe. Hopefully it's as much fun as 1942.

I didn't buy my PC to be degraded by such filth as 50 Cent.
All other forms of filth are OK though.
