I'm finally back home in Texas. 'Course, my family isn't here so I just spent the weekend puttering around house. Mowed the lawn (I'm sure my neighbours were happy to see that), edged, weedwacked, cleaned up. Rode my bike twice, washed it Sunday.
Changed the oil in the G and Toyota. The G was *way* overdue as a result of travel requirements, but it sat for 6 weeks and has Royal Purple in it so I'm none too concerned. I took it easy on the way to service place, regardless.
I put up an indoor/outdoor ceiling fan on our back patio, I'm sure my wife will love that when she comes back.
I got my first good night of sleep in over 5 weeks, too. That, itself, was worth coming home for, even if it's an empty house (except for our cats).
I got the chance to open up the throttle a few times - damn, it's nice to be driving a real car for a change. The rental just didn't do it for me. (Chevy Trailblazer - goot to haul stuff around, but not much on enjoying the experience of driving side.)
The weather was sketchy most of the time my wife and son were in Florida with me - threatened to rain just about all the time. But, we had two beautiful days at Magic Kingdom and a marginal day at MGM Studios - it was well worth the risk, and the risk paid off.
Once I got back, it was hot, but it's Texas. Working outside in the mid-90's isn't too bad as long as you drink a ton of water. Could have wrung out my shirt afterwards, tho.
damn ... most people come back from vacation and just vegge out on the couch ... here you are being super dad/husdand. Any clue when you'll be pulled from home again?
I didn't want the Neighbourhood Association breathing down my neck, so I had to take care of a bunch of stuff. Besides, there is a certain pride one can take in a nice-looking lawn - not that mine is all that much to look at.
I almost had to fly out last night or this morning on an emergency trip, but we managed to find an alternative. Still not out of the woods, but hopefully in the next few hours we'll get things sorted out. Outside that, the list stands, but so far nothing is coming of it. I don't hear about trips until a few days before anyways, so I'm just sitting tight and trying to work without getting to wrapped up in things.
