OK...time to vent.....I RARELY have a need to go on the freeway during the workday, but today I had to drive up to LA at lunch time (40 mile drive each way). I gotta tell you, by the time I got back to work I was so steamed that I parked my car and went straight to the restaurant next to my building to have a scotch and water......I've come to the conclusion that all Mercedez Benz drivers must die. Here's why:
I had 5 instances where someone driving a Benz made complete boneheaded maneuvers at high speed on the freeway, 4 of them due to thier apparent lack of interest in paying attention to the task at hand (driving on the freeway). Rush hour seems so much safer...slower speeds and all.
Incident 1: Trying to get on the freeway, I'm behind some delivery truck doing 45 mph...an opening to my left appears but I need to gun it because someone's coming up from behind. No sooner do I do so than a sliver ML320 drifts into my lane from the left going about 60 mph (everyon else but these two guys are going 80!) I slam on the breaks, wait for an opportunity and pass the guy to the left. I glare at him as I pass and see him studying his cell phone instead of the road.
Incident 2: I see a fast approaching vehicle behind me in the fast lane (I'm one lane over to the righ to fhis). This person passes me at about 90 mph, its a black S500, waits until he almost hits the car in front of him (who has been there for I don't know how long) before slamming his brakes, veers two lanes over to the right (crossing in front of me, not dangerously). About 30 seconds later, I catch up to him as he's slowed down to about 60 and he's flipping through some paperwork he thought he could knock out while driving on the freeway.
Incident 3: I'm coming back in the fast lane but we're only going 55 mph or so, traffic is getting heavier. I sit behind a whilte S500 for 5 minutes or so and proceed to watch car after car pass me to the right...finally, I give up and pass him as well, and there's no one for about 1/4 mile in front of him and he's chatting on his phone.
Incident 4: (not 2 minutes later) a guy in a brand new SL55 AMG convertible blows by me on the right and moves into my lane ahead of me.....sweat car, by the way. After a minute or so, I catch up to him because he's backed off to 60 mph (still in the fast lane), so like so many times already on this journey, I pass him on the right, take a look and, sure enough, he's dialing someone on his cell phone
Incident 5: Some bimbo in a C230 cuts me off as I exit the free way.
Damn, I'm gettin heated just thinking about it again. I've noticed that people who drive this brand of car simply think they can do whatever they want. It's hilarious how many of them will park at the red curb outside of Starbucks, or pull a rolling "stop" at 10 mph when you have the right of way, or any other number of growing annoyances.
If I EVER threaten to buy a MBZ, PLEASE someone remind me of this thread!

If you do.... I'll just rehire the monkey to throw poo at you.

Seems like stuff like this is happening more and more often - or, rather, all the damned time. I don't think I could do a daily drive through DFW during the day without seeing a few dozen people using their car as an office. Worse yet, they all drive SUVs, so if someone fscks up someone is going to get killed.
I've always read about people doing things like shaving, make-up or reading the paper in the car, but I never saw it until I drove in morning DFW traffic. I've seen ladies with the visor down holding up a make-up kit as they put on their face at 70, guys with the paper fully open and only a sliver of space to see the road over the top.
I'm not much better, I use my BlackBerry on occasion in the car.
Otherwise, people wonder why I try to go 5-10mph faster than traffic. I like to control the situation around me, and the longer I'm in the threat zone of some person doing one of these things, the more likely I am to have a problem as a result.
Yeah... God only knows how much more obnoxious I will be when I'm able to buy this car.
You're going to get worse?!
