Somewhere, somehow somebody
Must have kicked you around some
Tell me why you wanna lay there
And revel in your abandon
Listen it don't make no difference to me baby
Everybody's had to fight to be free
You see you don't have to live like a refugee
Now baby you don't have to live like a refugee
Song: Refugee
Artist: Tom Petty
Significance: My first public Karaoke experience this past weekend!
standing here
the old man said to me
"long before these crowded streets
here stood my dreaming tree"
below it he would sit
for hours at a time now progress takes away
what forever took to find
now he's falling hard
he feels the fall of dark
how he longs to be
beneath his dreaming tree
conquered fear to climb
a moment froze in time
when the girl who first he kissed
promised him she'd be his
remembered mother's words
there beneath the tree
"no matter what the world
you'll always be my baby"
mommy come quick
the dreaming tree has died
the air is growing thick
a fear he cannot hide
the dreaming tree has died
oh, have you no pity?
this thing i do
i do no deny it
all through this smile
as crooked as danger
i do not deny
i know in my mind
i would leave you now
if i had the strength to
i would leave you up
to your own devices
will you not talk?
can you take pity?
i don't ask much
but won't you speak, please?
from the start
she knew she had it made
easy up 'til then
for sure she'd make the grade
adorers came in hordes
to lay down in her wake
she gave it all she had
but treasures slowly fade
now she's falling hard
she feels the fall of dark
how did this fall apart?
she drinks to fill it up
a smile of sweetest flowers
wilted so and soured
black tears stain the cheeks
that once were so admired
she thinks when she was small
there on her father's knee
how he had promised her
"you'll always be my baby"
"daddy, come quick
the dreaming tree has died
i can't find my way home
there is no place to hide
the dreaming tree has died"
oh, if i had the strength...
take me back
save me please
sorry this is so long... but it's some of my favorite lyrics i have ever heard. depending on how you interpret it, to me it deals with: life, death, love, lost love, wanted love, and even more.
after you hear the song the lyrics are even better (as are most)
i also bolded the two lines that i think are "clever" and have a lot more meanign to them than a few words.

Significance: That line always reminds me of how two people can view the same situation, facts, and realities in incredibly different ways. We're all living in our own custom generated worlds tainted by our own views and perceptions. I use that to remember that not everyone is going to see things my way.

Politik by Coldplay...dedicated to Navy for showing up tonight...I mean next morning...cuz no one wants the plus one to be plus pic.
Look at earth from outer space
Everyone must find a place
Give me time and give me space
Give me real, don't give me fake
Give me strength, reserve control
Give me heart and give me soul
Give me time, give us a kiss
Tell me your own politik
Open up your eyes
Open up your eyes
Open up your eyes
Just open up your eyes
Give me one, cause one is best
In confusion, confidence
Give me piece of mind and trust
Don't forget the rest of us
Give me strength, reserve control
Give me heart and give me soul
Wounds that heal and cracks that fix
Tell me your own politik
and...
Open up your eyes
Open up your eyes
Open up your eyes
Just open up your eyes
And give me love over, love over, love over this, ahhh
And give me love over, love over, love over this, ahhh
Garth Brooks "Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old)"
This ol' highway's getting longer
Seems there ain't no end in sight
To sleep would be best but I just can't afford to rest
I've got to ride in Denver tomorrow night
I called the house but no one answered
For the last two weeks no one's been home
I guess she's through with me to tell the truth I just can't see
What's kept the woman holding on this long
And the white line's getting longer and the saddle's getting cold
I'm much too young to feel this damn old
All my cards are on the table with no ace left in the hole
I'm much too young to feel this damn old
The competition's getting younger
Tougher broncs, you know I can't recall
The worn out tape of Chris LeDoux, lonely women and bad booze
Seem to be the only friends I've left at all
And the white line's getting longer and the saddle's getting cold
I'm much too young to feel this damn old
All my cards are on the table with no ace left in the hole
I'm much too young to feel this damn old
Lord, I'm much too young to feel this damn old
I relate to this song because it's about a guy whose job forces him to be on the road more than he's home, it's been the reason his relationships have not lasted, and it makes him so tired and isolated sometimes that he feels older than his years. Pretty much me in a nutshell.

"You're a candle in the window on a cold, dark winter's night."
- REO Speedwagon, 'Can't Fight This Feeling'
The night I realized I was in love with my now-wife, I dropped her off at her house in Vermont in January. She went inside and watched me leave through the window to the side of her front door. I remember her face there, looking out at me as I drove away.
Or, the entire song "Marathon", by Rush.
It’s not how fast you can go
The force goes into the flow
If you pick up the beat
You can forget about the heat
More than just survival
More than just a flash
More than just a dotted line
More than just a dash
It’s a test of ultimate will
The heartbreak climb uphill
Got to pick up the pace
If you want to stay in the race
More than just blind ambition
More than just simple greed
More than just a finish line
Must feed this burning need --
In the long run...
From first to last
The peak is never passed
Something always fires the light
That gets in your eyes
One moment’s high
And glory rolls on by
Like a streak of lightning
That flashes and fades
In the summer sky
Your meters may overload
You can rest at the side of the road
You can miss a stride
But nobody gets a free ride
More than high performance
More than just a spark
More than just the bottom line
Or a lucky shot in the dark --
In the long run...
You can do a lot in a lifetime
If you don’t burn out too fast
You can make the most of the distance
First you need endurance --
First you’ve got to last...
I woke up at five minutes till I had to be at work, brushed teeth, dressed myself on the way there! Floored it with this song blaring out. People in Dublin, Ohio did not need to see this...but they did.
"Yes indeed, Ludacris I'm hotter than Nevada
Ready to break the steerin column on yo' Impala..........
Whoa! Don't slip up or get got! (Why not man?)
I'm comin for that number one spot! (Alright)
Rappers swearin they on top! (Nuh uh, uh uh)
But I'm comin' for they number one spot! (Alright man)
Scheme scheme, plot plot (say WHAT?)
I'm comin for that number one spot! (Woo, hey)
Keep it goin it won't stop! (What you doin man?)
I'm comin for that number one spot!"
