Have you had that greyhound since it was a pup... did it used to be a race dog?
I live about a mile from a greyhound race-track(this thing draws tremendous crowds) and a lot of my neighbors raise and race greyhounds as their family business in backyard kennels. Of course... if one of the dogs should happen to break a leg in a race, it is of no use to the owner any more... so they typcally just shoot them. As you can imagine, this really gets under the skin of animal rights activists and animal lovers in general... So a lot of people will take these "damaged" greyhounds and keep them as pets. The former race dogs are usually very shy and unobtrusive dogs, but suffer from some strange side-effects of being raised(tortured, some may say) in a kennel for the entirety of their youth. Most of them don't know how to navigate up and down a flight of stairs, and they don't usually display much intelligence.... being that the only stimuli they're brains ever encountered was chasing a fake rabit mounted on the end of a pole at the track.
Sorry about the rant, but I see these dogs every day(and hear them at feeding time ).

The last dog I had died when I was about 11 years old, and ironicly enough, it got hit and killed by a dog kennel truck driven by one of my neighbors who raises greyhounds for the dog-track that is right up the street. My sister and I saw the whole thing from our front window of the house.
All I have now is my cat(she thinks she's either a dog or a person, based on the way she acts), and a 17 year old white-dove. This dove will not die... my friends call it the eternal dove of life.
