(just what did you think this was going to be about? :P )
Tonight i'm having my LASIK done and get to do a question and answer session after it's over. I've heard there are *only* going to be like 20-25 people watching it being done. ugh
Can't wait to seeeeeeee. But i'm going to miss my glasses
I don't know too many people who are particularly pleased when the parade of interns come into their hospital room to observe. Of course, if you're in the hospital, you're probably not in a real good mood. But medical personal have to learn somehow and, I suspect, such first hand experience is invaluable. I wouldn't be particularly worried about the observers. If you are uncomfortable with it, I suppose they would honor your request for a stronger sedative. :P
That said, I would personally not allow anyone but a VERY experienced refractive surgeon (thousands of procedures) near my eyes - NO newbies! And, I would be looking very closely at the results of every single one of his/her priors. LASIK is relatively low risk when done correctly but, still, you sure don't want to end up worse off than before.
Do you know if they intend to use Zyoptix wavefront-guided custom corneal ablation in your procedure?
dholly: They aren't interns. They are patients from my office that are interested in getting it done which means I will know at least half of them plus 3 or 4 of the doctors from the practice. I think i'd rather it was strangers.
I feel comfortable with this surgeon because he has done the surgery on at least 90% of our patients. He's pretty well known around here for LASIK surgeries. http://www.furlongvision.com/
Yes, they will be doing Wavefront LASIK on me. I got the major hookup on this surgery (read: free) so they can have as many people watching as they want!

I got to sit in on a friend of mine's lasiks, and it was SOOOO cool - I loved everything but the smell of burning flesh from the laser portion near the end. Totally worth seeing if you like things like this on the discovery channel
He felt nothing, and the hardest part was holding his eye still and looking directly into a bright light he said. In 30 minutes both were done and as he was eased into a sitting position, the doctor asked him to read the time on a small analog clock about 30 feet across the room (the clock was about 8 inches across) and he said - 1:20pm then realized there was NO way he could have seen that 30 minutes ago without his glasses. I was duely impressed.
Thanks everyone. Hopefully I will still be able to read 6mt tomorrow :P
dholly: I think it's the same price around here too
Dizz: pics of Mark's hair? :P
Jaylin: no more drugs after this is over
NWG35: I think the higher your prescription is, the more that burning smell is present. Luckily my prescription is not that bad.
