Default Question for my Korean brothers

This question came up during lunch at a Korean place today:
Does "kimchi" refer to all the little dishes they bring you, or just the fermented cabbage one?

All those little side dishes are referred to as "ban-chan", where both the a's are pronounced like the a's in "america"

It's spelled kim chee down here. It's really more of a pickled cabbage than a fermented cabbage. Kim chee and rice.....mmmmmm gooood.

Kimchi is the rotten spicy cabbage they bring you and it smells bad but taste good like a muthafooker. However, Ruffkimchi is something you have with some ironrice and it'll blow your socks away.

anyonghasayo...

no, it doesn't work without being able to type the Korean Alphabet...took a few years of Korean back in college...my favorite thing to say....kulsayo, morgenundeyo...

I am having a flame war with my best friend right now...it sucks...worse than spicy butt after eating too much kimchee.
