Can anybody recommend a good mp3 player? I want it to hold a lot of music. i was thinking 40 gigs would be nice. I don't want it to be bulky though. I'll be using it mostly on the beach for running/jogging.

iPod mini will hold more than enough songs to satisfy your needs. Plus, it is relatively small and really easy to operate.
iPod all the way! I have the 15 GB version and it has about 3000 songs on it currently, but I am nearing capacity. For the same price I paid ($299) you can get a 20GB version. I have an iMac and they work together flawlessly. Probably the best "toy" I've ever bought (cars excluded, of course )
but i read the ipod doesn't play wma. i have windows xp and i really like wma. any other suggestions? i looked at iriver h10 i think and the rio carbon. i wondered. do the hard drive players skip?
last mp3 player i bought had only 64mb of memory. thats before there was anything more than 256mb. lol. it didn't even have flash memory.

iPods are WAY overpriced in my opinion. I got the Dell Digital Jukebox and LOVE it. Same capacity for $100 less. It doesn't have some of the features like games or a calendar, but I didn't care because I wanted an mp3 player, not a PDA. But it has all of the mp3 player functions you could want. I highly recommend it.
Creative Nomad Xtra i have the 30 gig and about 1700 hundred songs and i still have 19 gigs left. The sound is great they make computer speakers so sound quality is excellent. I bought it in November of 2003 and the battery still hasnt died on me, and the battery life is really good. Its a little bulky compared to the ipod but you probably could get a 60 gig for 250 bucks. I mean you cant beat that price and quality.
Heres an excellent site to go to where you can compare mp3 players and prices with shipping and tax.
i've been looking on cnet, along with iriver and rio. my last mp3 player was a rio and it worked great. i'm thinking i'll end up with the rio carbon from what i've seen. i like that the iriver h10 has so many equilizer settings (32) but i can't imagine so many of them making a noticble difference.
a friend of mine had the dell jukebox a few years back. i think he enjoyed his too.
i'm looking for somehting kind of small with lots of memory, so the carbon seems to fit right in.
btw- i remember your set up jaylin from when you posted before. very nice. i'm just not a big fan of the ipod.

the mp3 player i ended up getting. the rio carbon. was able to order it for 160 dollars + overnight shipping (which was just 10 bucks).
i'm sure the headphones won't be that great. think i'll need a set of in the ear type and i don't want to spend 200 somethiing dollars like cnet has, but i would like a good sound with a lot of bass. any suggestions?

Thankfully there are several aftermarket CD Auto head units that play both MP3 and WMA now, since we are already seeing (like on the 05's) MP3 players in dash, I'd expect to see WMA from manufacturer's soon as well.
haha, 5 gigs is a big upgrade from my previous player. i don't mind having to transfer music all the time. right now my collection is around 3 gigs in mp3. so 5 gigs is big enough for now.

dont under estimate your need for gigs! when I first got my iPod, i put most of my CD's on it and it only took up something like 6 GB's of the units 15 GB's of space. then, slowly but surely, I added friends CD's and bought new ones on my own and suddenly I'm at 14GB+!
Dude, I wish I could have posted this before you bought it. I bought the 1.5 gig version of that player and it was a total piece of crap. Mine was called the Rio Nitrus and the internal hard drive locked up after two days. I reinstalled the firmware two or three times and it never worked properly. My recommendation at this point is to make sure you hang onto the receipt and all of the original packaging in case you need to return it. I hope for your sake they have improved it.

yea, only thing about getting a larger player is it's a lil larger. i wanted something small like the carbon is, which btw came by fed ex today. it has beautiful colors. the buttons light up in red and the "Rio" at the top does also. It came with 19 sample songs that i was able to able to listen to, sounds great even with the earbuds it came with.
thanks for the heads up navy. it has a 90 day warranty, so if anything seems to be acting up i'll have it taken care of or returned.
